Join Our Oncology Care Team
Stuart Oncology Associates is seeking a skilled and dependable Certified Pharmacy Technician to support medication preparation for our outpatient oncology infusion centers. This specialized role is responsible for preparing sterile IV medications—including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, and supportive-care infusions—and helping ensure treatments are prepared safely, accurately, and on time.You will work closely with infusion nurses, and other members of the oncology care team in a highly collaborative clinical environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician who wants to develop or expand specialized expertise in oncology, sterile compounding, hazardous-drug handling, and infusion services.
What You’ll DoSterile and IV Medication Preparation
- Prepare hazardous and non-hazardous sterile IV medications under appropriate supervision
- Compound chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, and supportive-care medications
- Follow proper aseptic technique and required cleanroom and personal protective equipment procedures
- Accurately calculate medication doses, dilutions, volumes, and infusion parameters according to approved treatment plans
- Prepare accurate medication labels containing the correct patient information, medication, dose, route, infusion instructions, and beyond-use date
- Review medication orders for completeness before preparation and promptly escalate discrepancies or questions
- Prioritize preparation based on patient treatment schedules, including urgent and time-sensitive orders
Inventory and Treatment Support
- Review upcoming treatment schedules and ensure the appropriate medications and vial sizes are available
- Select medication quantities and vial sizes with attention to minimizing avoidable drug waste
- Monitor medication and supply inventory and place orders as needed
- Receive, organize, rotate, and properly store medications and infusion supplies
- Identify expired, recalled, damaged, or returnable medications
- Run inventory and medication-return reports
- Coordinate with the dispensing pharmacy regarding medications received, administered, transferred, or returned
- Prepare the medication and supply areas for the following day’s infusion schedule
Quality, Safety, and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of medication preparation, inventory, waste, returns, and other required activities
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of sterile-compounding and medication-preparation areas
- Follow established procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous medications and waste
- Participate in medication-safety, quality-assurance, and error-reporting processes
- Maintain an organized, clean, and inspection-ready work environment
Team Collaboration
- Communicate clearly with pharmacists, infusion nurses, the Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and other members of the oncology care team
- Report medication discrepancies, inventory concerns, treatment delays, or safety issues immediately
- Help ensure medications are prepared accurately and available when patients are ready for treatment
- Support the infusion department with stocking, organization, workflow, and medication coordination
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Active Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician registration
- Completion of a Florida Board of Pharmacy-approved pharmacy technician training program or other qualifying training
- Training or demonstrated competency in sterile compounding and aseptic technique
- Strong mathematical skills, including dosage, dilution, and volume calculations
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication and patient safety
- Ability to follow detailed procedures consistently and accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous sterile IV-compounding experience
- Experience preparing chemotherapy or other hazardous medications
- Experience in an oncology practice, infusion center, hospital, or specialty pharmacy a plus but will train right candidate.
- Formal chemotherapy or hazardous-drug handling training
- Experience with medication inventory, returns, purchasing, or waste-reduction processes
