Optometric Technician – Entry Level

Our private optometry practice is looking for a dependable, personable, and motivated Optometric Technician to become part of our team. If you enjoy working with people, are comfortable in a busy office, and want the opportunity to learn new skills in eye care, this could be a great fit.
No previous optometry or ophthalmology experience is required. This is an entry-level position, and we provide paid training for the right person.
What You’ll Do
As an Optometric Technician, you’ll work closely with both patients and our doctor throughout the day. Your responsibilities will include a combination of clinical, patient-care, and front-office tasks.
Patient & Clinical Responsibilities
- Greet patients and help create a welcoming, comfortable experience from the moment they arrive.
- Prepare patients for their appointments and assist with pre-examination testing.
- Conduct visual acuity measurements and other preliminary assessments.
- Review and document medical history, medications, symptoms, and the reason for the visit.
- Perform diagnostic testing as part of routine and medical eye examinations.
- Enter patient information and test results accurately into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assist the doctor during examinations and with other clinical needs.
- Order and dispense contact lenses and explain proper use and care to patients.
- Keep patient records complete, accurate, and confidential.
- Help keep examination rooms, equipment, and clinical areas clean and organized.
Office & Patient Service Responsibilities
- Check vision and medical insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Explain insurance coverage, copays, and other patient financial responsibilities.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments.
- Help manage provider schedules and keep the day's workflow running smoothly.
- Answer phones and respond to patient questions and messages in a courteous and timely manner.
- Collect payments and accurately enter transactions into the billing system.
- Assist with insurance-related paperwork and other office documentation.
- Protect patient privacy and follow HIPAA requirements.
- Help with general office responsibilities and additional tasks as needed.

Experience That Helps — But Isn’t Required
You do not need previous eye-care experience to apply. We are willing to train someone who has the right attitude and work ethic.
The following experience is helpful but not required:
- Medical office experience
- Customer service experience
- Patient-facing experience
- Experience working with electronic medical records
- Familiarity with vision or medical insurance
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of customer service or patient-facing experience is preferred
- Ability to maintain dependable attendance and arrive on time for scheduled shifts
- Paid on-the-job training is provided
Physical Requirements
This position involves regular movement throughout the office and requires the ability to:
- Walk and stand frequently, up to approximately 75% of the workday
- Bend, stoop, reach, and perform other routine movements as needed
- Lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Use computers and office equipment regularly, including tasks requiring fine motor skills
- Perform duties requiring visual and auditory abilities, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and focus
- Occasionally climb as needed
