HR Assistant
Summary/Objective
The HR Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources function to help ensure effective recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, employee recordkeeping, training coordination, benefits and employee communications, and other HR activities. The position requires strong organization, attention to detail, sound judgment, confidentiality, and a service-oriented approach when supporting employees, managers, candidates, and external partners.
Primary Job Responsibilities

- Assist in the recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening resumes, conducting or coordinating initial candidate screenings, and scheduling interviews with hiring managers.
- Maintain accurate and current electronic employee records and ensure HR documentation is properly filed and retained in accordance with company policies, recordkeeping requirements, and applicable legal requirements.
- Support onboarding for new hires, including electronic onboarding paperwork, employment documentation, conducting new hire orientation, and completion of required new-hire activities.
- Support offboarding for departing employees, including required documentation, HRMS updates, benefit-related administrative steps, and coordination of company property and other separation activities.
- Coordinate employee training and development programs, including scheduling, communications, attendance tracking, training records, and related administrative support.
- Assist in the administration of employee benefits, including new-hire enrollment, open enrollment, employee changes, and responding to routine benefit questions.
- Draft, format, and update HR documents, including job descriptions, offer letters, employee communications, forms, reports, and templates.
- Prepare HR reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Help organize company events, employee engagement activities, career fairs, and team-building activities.
- Respond to routine employee inquiries and provide professional, timely, and service-oriented support.
- Provide general administrative support to the HR department and assist with HR projects, compliance activities, audits, and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain strict confidentiality and protect sensitive employee, applicant, benefits, and company information.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.

- Familiarity with HR software and tools, including HRIS and applicant tracking systems (ATS); experience with Foundation is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with employees and managers at different levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and HR recordkeeping practices is preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
This position typically operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses computers, phones, and standard office equipment. The role may also support field-based employees and business operations as needed.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, frequently operate a computer and other office equipment, and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty pounds.
Expected Hours of Work
Full-time schedule as assigned by the company. Additional hours may occasionally be required based on business needs.
Travel
Occasional domestic travel may be required for career fairs, recruiting activities, training, meetings, or other business needs.
Required Education and Experience
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in human resources, Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum, two years of previous experience in a Human Resources role.
- Experience using HR software and tools, such as an HRIS and ATS.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Must be bilingual in Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous HR experience in a growing construction company environment is preferred.
- Experience with remote project work sites and virtual collaboration tools such as MS Teams and Zoom.
- Working knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulations.
- HRCI PHR certifications, or another recognized Human Resources certification is a plus.
- Experience in the construction secure space or federal contracting industry is a plus.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must be able to successfully complete any background screening and drug testing required by the company, client, or applicable contract.
Work Authorization
Must be eligible to work in the United States. Some positions or assignments may require U.S. citizenship based on contract requirements.

Pay Transparency Statement
The salary range for this position is $24.00 - $33.66 per hour (MidAtlantic Region). This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range. As a result, starting pay may vary within the posted range.
The Company reserves the right to modify compensation and benefits programs in accordance with applicable laws and business needs.
