About the Role

McKesson is seeking a highly strategic and influential leader to join the Strategy, Marketing & Operations team as a Senior Director, Strategic Planning. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Planning & Management, this role serves as a trusted advisor to SCS leadership and plays a critical role in shaping business strategy, growth priorities, and enterprise-wide decision making.

This advanced strategic individual contributor position is responsible for translating long-term strategic objectives into actionable business priorities, developing growth strategies across multiple business areas, and leading complex strategic initiatives that drive business performance. The role sits at the intersection of strategy, market intelligence, and execution, partnering closely with senior leaders to guide investment decisions and accelerate organizational outcomes.

The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking, executive-level communication skills, market insight, and analytical rigor to solve complex business challenges and influence decisions across a matrixed organization.

What You'll Do

- Lead development of business and growth strategies across key SCS business segments, translating market trends, competitive intelligence, and customer insights into actionable recommendations.

- Partner with executive leaders to define strategic priorities, evaluate growth opportunities, and establish investment strategies.

- Support development of 3-5 year strategic plans by assessing market dynamics, business performance, emerging risks, and industry trends.

- Facilitate strategic planning processes, executive workshops, and leadership discussions to drive alignment on priorities and resource allocation.

- Lead high-impact strategic initiatives from concept through recommendation, ensuring initiatives are aligned with organizational objectives.

- Build analytical frameworks, business cases, scenario analyses, and executive-level presentations that support critical decision making.

- Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and primary research projects to identify opportunities for growth and innovation.

- Collaborate across strategy, finance, operations, and business unit leadership teams to establish annual business priorities and strategic roadmaps.

- Develop actionable insights and recommendations that influence enterprise strategy, operational priorities, and market positioning.

- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on evolving healthcare market trends, competitive threats, and emerging opportunities.

Basic Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Healthcare Administration, Strategy, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

- 10+ years of experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, business planning, corporate development, healthcare strategy, or related fields.

- Experience leading enterprise or business-unit strategic planning efforts.

- Experience conducting market analysis, competitive intelligence, and strategic assessments.

- Experience presenting recommendations and influencing executive-level stakeholders.

- Demonstrated success leading complex cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed environment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

- MBA or other advanced business degree.

- Experience within healthcare, pharmaceutical distribution, pharmacy services, healthcare technology, or related sectors.

- Background in top-tier consulting, strategic planning, corporate strategy, or transformation organizations.

- Advanced financial modeling, scenario planning, and business case development skills.

- Experience leading primary market research initiatives.

- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence decisions across senior leadership teams.

- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and solve highly complex business challenges.

- Experience supporting annual operating plans, growth strategy development, and portfolio planning efforts.

- Project leadership experience spanning multiple business units and stakeholders.

Travel & Physical Requirements

- General office-based work environment.

- Ability to travel up to 30% as business needs require.

This position offers the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement based on recent updates to our in-office/work‑from‑home model. If located in DFW area, the selected candidate may be expected to work on‑site at our Las Colinas office a minimum of two (2) days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. Specific in‑office days may be designated according to team needs and business priorities.
