WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Synapticon builds the motion control and actuator technology at the core of next-generation humanoid robots. As Senior Functional Safety Engineer you'll be working on Positron, our PLe/SIL3-rated safety architecture for humanoid robotics — one of the first functional safety systems built specifically for humanoids rather than adapted from industrial robot arms.
You will own the tooling that keeps our safety evidence coherent — requirement files, our ALM system, test annotations and CI all need to agree with each other — and you will build and evolve it working alongside AI coding agents, every day. If that is your passion, apply and join our Safety Systems team in Schönaich (close to Stuttgart).
HERE'S WHERE YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
-
Own and continuously evolve the synchronisation between our requirement files and the ALM system, making the architectural calls that keep it robust as the product line grows
-
Design and drive the CI checks that enforce safety evidence rather than merely describe it — traceability from requirements to tests, and coverage figures that can be relied on — setting the strategy other engineers build on
-
Take full ownership of the automation around our review and release workflows, treating these as support tools under the standard, with the tool-qualification thinking that implies, and drive improvements to how the team works
-
Lead responses to external assessor review protocols, coordinating directly with assessors and internal stakeholders to track document versions and close open points
-
Drive the authoring and refinement of requirements across the product, system and unit tiers; own traceability and gap registers; keep requirements and architecture diagrams consistent with one another, and guide less experienced colleagues in doing the same
WHO YOU ARE
-
5+ years of hands-on experience in robotics functional safety, including having taken at least one robotics safety project end-to-end — from concept through development to certification
-
Proven, independent command of safety development lifecycles and workflows, gained across multiple projects
-
Must-have — hands-on experience with at least one: IEC 61508, ISO 10218, ISO 13849
-
Strong grounding in FMEA, diagnostic coverage, and failure-rate budgeting, with the judgement to apply it independently
-
Extensive experience with ALM or requirements tools such as Polarion, codebeamer, Jama, or DOORS, including tool qualification
-
Real, hands-on experience working with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor or equivalent) — be ready to talk about what you built, where it was confidently wrong, how you found out, and how you'd coach others to do the same
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
-
A warm, international team that truly enjoys working together
-
Plenty of creative freedom and the opportunity to make a real impact
-
Flexible working hours and hybrid work options
-
Short decision-making paths, flat hierarchies, and open communication

About us
HACKING THE PHYSICS AND ECONOMICS OF MOTION CONTROL WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
At Synapticon, we are revolutionizing motion control for robotics and machines—right at the point of motion.
Our approach is completely new: we integrate previously separate components such as motors, drives, sensors, and gearboxes into seamless units. At the same time, we are digitizing performance and quality factors that previously depended on expensive mechanical manufacturing.
World-leading innovators are choosing Synapticon to pave their way into the future of intelligent, motion-controlled systems.
