Engineer/Maintenance – Homewood Suites and Hampton by Hilton San Juan

Position Overview:

The Engineer performs a broad range of preventive maintenance, repair and general property maintenance activities throughout the hotel, including guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces and building systems. The position helps ensure the property remains safe, attractive, well maintained and operating efficiently while supporting guest satisfaction and the hotel’s day-to-day operations.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Guestroom, Public Area & General Repairs

· Respond promptly to work orders and service calls in guestrooms, public areas and back-of-house spaces, completing repairs in a timely, professional and guest-focused manner.

· Inspect assigned areas for items requiring repair, adjustment, touch-up or replacement and take appropriate corrective action.

· Perform general repairs involving plumbing, basic electrical work, carpentry, painting, wall coverings, caulking, grouting, hardware, fixtures, furniture and other hotel equipment or finishes.

· Repair or replace items such as light bulbs, lamps, switches, outlets, faucets, toilets, filters, ceiling tiles and other miscellaneous components within the scope of the position.

· Enter occupied guestrooms professionally and courteously, respecting guest privacy and personal belongings at all times.

Preventive Maintenance & Building Systems

· Complete scheduled preventive maintenance activities for guestrooms, mechanical rooms, equipment and other assigned areas in accordance with the property’s preventive maintenance program.

· Inspect pumps, motors, piping, valves, HVAC-related components and other mechanical equipment to identify wear, abnormal conditions or potential failures before they impact operations.

· Use systematic troubleshooting techniques to identify the likely cause of equipment failures before replacing components whenever practical.

· Assist with the operation and maintenance of building systems and equipment, including basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, kitchen, laundry and pool/spa equipment, as applicable to training and assigned responsibilities.

· Monitor building automation, alarms and life-safety related systems as assigned and immediately report or escalate abnormal conditions in accordance with hotel procedures.

· Observe utility consumption and promptly report unusual water, electrical, fuel or HVAC usage that may indicate equipment failure, leaks or energy waste.

Work Orders, Documentation & Communication

· Maintain ownership of assigned work orders from initial response through completion, documenting findings, corrective actions, parts used and required follow-up accurately.

· Communicate the status of service calls and repairs to the Engineering Manager, supervisors and affected departments as appropriate.

· Provide a complete shift handoff, including pending work orders, equipment issues, guest concerns, contractors on property, equipment taken out of service and items requiring follow-up.

· Report major repairs, unsafe conditions or issues beyond the scope of the position to the Engineering Manager immediately.

· Maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly used supplies and communicate replenishment needs to the Engineering Manager.

Safety, Security & Compliance

· Follow all hotel safety procedures and applicable requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout practices, SDS information and safe operation of hand and power tools.

· Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged PPE, malfunctioning equipment, leaks, fire/life-safety concerns or other hazards to management.

· Use equipment, chemicals and tools only as trained and authorized, maintaining a clean, organized and safe Engineering shop and work area.

· Support emergency response activities within the scope of training and prioritize emergency maintenance calls during the shift.

· Follow Hilton brand standards, hotel policies and PRISA Hospitality procedures related to safety, service, security and property operations.

Operational & Guest Service Support

· Provide professional, courteous service when interacting with guests, team members, vendors and contractors.

· Coordinate with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and other departments to minimize operational disruption and support timely resolution of maintenance issues.

· Assist the Engineering Manager with special projects, renovations, vendor/contractor activity and property improvement initiatives as assigned.

· Support a seven-day, twenty-four-hour hospitality operation by maintaining regular attendance, punctuality and flexibility to work assigned shifts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

· One (1) to two (2) years of practical experience in maintenance, facilities or construction trades preferred; hotel or hospitality experience is a plus.

· Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, carpentry and general repair techniques.

· Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to operate common hand and power tools safely and correctly.

· Ability to read and follow work orders, safety data sheets (SDS), basic equipment manuals and operating instructions.

· Basic computer skills to document work orders and use standard workplace applications or property systems.

· Ability to communicate effectively with guests, coworkers and supervisors and perform basic mathematical calculations related to the job.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Technical school certificate, apprenticeship or formal training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems or a related field.

· EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant handling, when applicable to assigned responsibilities.

· CPR and/or First Aid training.

· Prior maintenance experience in a hotel, resort or large commercial property.

· Attention to detail and commitment to completing repairs correctly and safely.

· Reliability, accountability and follow-through on assigned work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.

· Commitment to maintaining a clean, professional appearance and following uniform and grooming standards.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager based on operational needs.

· Support the successful opening and ongoing operation of the dual-branded hotel while helping maintain Hilton brand standards and ownership objectives.
