Local Flatbed Truck Driver (Class B) We are seeking a part time dependable, safety-conscious Class B Flatbed Truck Driver to manage the local transport and handling of our premium stainless and alloy materials. In this role, you will be responsible for loading, securing, and delivering heavy industrial metal products directly to local clients and job sites, ensuring you are home every evening. The ideal candidate must be a skilled driver who is equally comfortable operating warehouse equipment like forklifts and overhead cranes.
Key Responsibilities Driving & Delivery
- Local delivery: Safely operate a company Class B flatbed truck to deliver stainless steel sheets, bars, tubing, and alloy materials to local customers.
- Route Planning: Utilize GPS and routing systems to plan efficient delivery schedules and ensure timely arrivals.
- Vehicle Inspection: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (fluids, brakes, tires) and document logs according to DOT standards.
Load Securing & Material Handling
- Load Securing: Chain, strap, and tarp heavy stainless and alloy loads to the flatbed trailer to guarantee zero movement during transit.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate sit-down forklifts and industrial overhead cranes to load and unload heavy metal freight.
- Weight Distribution: Verify that flatbed loads are properly centered, balanced, and within safe legal weight limits.
Safety & Administration
- Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA, DOT, and internal company safety guidelines.
- Documentation: Verify delivery paperwork, product counts, manifests, and customer bills of lading at each stop.
Job Requirements & QualificationsLicensing & Records
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B.
- A clean driving record with zero moving violations or major infractions.
- Ability to pass a mandatory DOT background check and drug screening.
- Current DOT Medical Card (or ability to obtain one).
Experience & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience driving a straight truck or Class B flatbed and hauling commercial loads.
- Equipment Proficiency: Proven experience or valid certification operating industrial forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Metal Handling Knowledge: Previous experience handling stainless steel, alloys, or heavy raw metals is highly preferred.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and physically throw heavy chains, straps, and tarps over materials.
