Overview

We are seeking a Control System and Communications Engineer to join our Operations and Maintenance team, primarily office-based, with regular remote support and site visits to operational energy and infrastructure assets across the UK. You will support Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), gas peaking plants, and associated safety, security, and fire protection systems.

This role focuses on the support, modification, optimisation, and fault resolution of live control, monitoring, and communications systems. You will work across PLCs, site networks, fibre infrastructure, safety systems, and monitoring platforms to ensure critical assets remain safe, compliant, and highly available.

You will be working for Statera Energy Operations (SEO), who operate the UKs largest portfolio of BESS and gas peaking plant sites, both DNO and transmission connected. This portfolio will grow hugely over the next 1-4 years with over 8 GW of sites due to come online.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide office-based technical support for live control, monitoring, and communications systems.

- Modify and enhance PLC and embedded control logic on existing platforms.

- Diagnose and resolve faults across PLCs, I/O, HMIs, networks, switches, firewalls, and remote access systems.

- Support and maintain site communications infrastructure, including fibre backbones, industrial Ethernet, managed switches, and secure remote connections.

- Interface with and support fire detection systems and security systems (CCTV, access control, intruder alarms).

- BMS, EMS, protection relays, metering and grid interface equipment

- Assist with system upgrades, vendor changes, and site modifications.

- Support FAT/SAT.

- Maintain drawings, network diagrams, configuration backups, and change records.

- Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Attend site for commissioning support, fault investigation, or major upgrades when required.

- Source and manage suitable specialist contractors where required.

Essential Skills and Experience

- 2+ years’ experience supporting industrial control systems.

- Experience with PLCs or embedded controllers (eg - CODESYS, Siemens TIA, Beckhoff, WAGO).

- Strong troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and communications layers.

- Understanding of industrial Ethernet, fibre networks, and OT communications.

- Ability to read schematics, P&IDs, and network drawings.

- Comfortable supporting safety-critical systems.

Desirable

- Experience with BESS, renewables, substations, or HV/LV environments.

- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity and secure remote access.

- Familiarity with SCADA, HMIs, and monitoring dashboards (Ignition, Wonderware, Grafana).

- Exposure to fire suppression and safety system interfaces.

- Experience with Linux-based or edge systems.

- Contract management.

Pay: £40,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
