MTG Education Group is a premier educational consultancy dedicated to guiding high school students through every phase of the selective college admissions process. We provide strategic, high-touch mentorship tailored to each student’s academic profile, personal narrative, and long-term aspirations.

We are expanding our team of dedicated advisors and seeking an experienced Senior College Admissions Counselorwith a proven track record of guiding students into top-tier colleges and universities.

Position Overview

In this role, you will manage a portfolio of high school seniors, serving as their primary strategist, editor, and accountability partner throughout the admissions cycle. You will craft balanced college lists, map out submission timelines, provide developmental feedback on essays, and ensure all application components are submitted well ahead of institutional deadlines.

The ideal candidate brings prior admissions office experience, exceptional editorial instincts, and the interpersonal skill required to mentor ambitious students while keeping parents informed.

Key Responsibilities

- Admissions Strategy & List Building: Partner with students and families to develop well-balanced, personalized college lists tailored to academic profiles, institutional fit, and strategic reach/target/safety distribution.

- Writing & Essay Development: Guide students through brainstorming, outlining, and editing personal statements, institution-specific supplemental essays, short-answer responses, and resume/activity descriptions. Maintain authentic student voice while elevating structure, clarity, and thematic coherence.

- Timeline & Application Execution: Oversee all milestone dates for Early Action, Early Decision, and Regular Decision cycles. Ensure every application component—including testing records, portfolios, and letters of recommendation requests—is completed well before official deadlines.

- Weekly Student Mentorship & Accountability: Conduct structured weekly one-on-one virtual meetings with each assigned student. Assign actionable weekly benchmarks, monitor completion, and hold students accountable to their commitments.

- Interview & Campus Visit Preparation: Prepare students for alumni and admissions interviews through structured mock interviews, talking point refinement, and visit debriefs.

- Progress Tracking & Internal Reporting: Maintain comprehensive case notes and milestone updates after every student session using our proprietary student tracking app. Deliver weekly portfolio status reports to the Director of College Admissions.

Qualifications

- Direct Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of professional experience advising high school students through the US college admissions process, with a documented track record of selective admissions outcomes. (Candidates without direct college counseling experience on their resume will not be considered.)

- Admissions Office Background: Prior professional experience working inside a college admissions office (e.g., Admissions Officer, Reader, or Committee Member) is strongly required.

- Exceptional Editorial Craft: Superior command of written English, narrative framing, and substantive editing. Must be able to elevate student writing without drafting content on their behalf.

- Student-Centered Coaching: Strong empathy, active listening skills, and the ability to inspire, organize, and motivate high school students facing high-pressure deadlines.

- Professional Communication: Clear, poised communication skills when interacting with students, executive leadership, and discerning parents.

- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university required; advanced degree preferred.
