Summer, Full-Time Hours Paid, ON-SITE Winterset, IA

AGRILAND FS is a fast growing energy company delivering diesel, gasoline, propane, and other petroleum products to customers nationwide, with a full agronomy business alongside. Our small technical team builds and runs the ELEVATE application suite and the ATLAS data platform on AWS, and we use AI as a core part of our daily workflow, not an occasional shortcut.

We are looking for a thinker. Someone who treats a messy business problem like a puzzle, who is genuinely curious about how people and processes actually work (not how the org chart says they work), and who can sit quietly in a 30-minute meeting and then make the one observation that changes the whole conversation. You do not need to be deeply technical. You do need to be tech-curious, unafraid to dig, and comfortable having an opinion and defending it.

Depending on your strengths, this role can lean toward business analysis (process mapping, requirements, workflow design) or data analysis (reporting, dashboards, finding the signal in operational data). We will shape the summer around the person we find.

What You'll Do

-
Sit with the people who run fuel delivery, billing, agronomy, and operations, and learn how work actually gets done, including the workarounds nobody wrote down

-
Map processes, ask the uncomfortable why questions, and document what you find clearly enough that others can act on it

-
Turn fuzzy requests into crisp requirements the development team can build against

-
Dig into operational data: fuel deliveries, invoices, contracts, and inventory, using our analytics platform and dashboards

-
Use AI to accelerate research, analysis, writing, and prototyping, and learn what it is genuinely good at versus where human judgment has to stay in the loop

-
Test new applications from the business user's point of view and tell us plainly where they fall short

-
Present findings and recommendations to the team and to business leaders, and be ready to defend them

What We're Looking For

-
A logical thinker and puzzle solver: someone who enjoys untangling a problem more than being handed the answer

-
Genuine curiosity about people and processes: why a thing is done the way it is, who touches it, and where it breaks

-
The listener's superpower: patient enough to absorb a full conversation, sharp enough to spot what everyone else missed, and confident enough to say it

-
Opinionated in the productive sense: willing to take a position, argue for it with evidence, and change your mind when the evidence says so

-
Tech-curious: you do not need to code, but you should light up when someone offers to show you how the system actually works under the hood

-
Clear writing and clear speaking, to technical and non-technical audiences alike

-
Comfort with ambiguity: fuzzy questions, incomplete data, and answers that start with it depends

Nice to Have

-
Coursework or projects in business analytics, data analytics, economics, finance, industrial engineering, or a similar quantitative field

-
Spreadsheet skills beyond the basics: pivot tables, lookups, and the instinct to sanity-check a number before trusting it

-
Any exposure to SQL, a BI tool (QuickSight, Power BI, Tableau), or a scripting language

-
Experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) for real work, not just novelty

-
Prior work experience of any kind where you had to understand a process to do the job well

Requirements

-
Currently pursuing a degree in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field

-
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

-
Must pass a criminal and credit background check along with a drug test

-
Ability and willingness to participate in required company training, including IT policies, procedures, and security protocols

Why This Internship Is Different

Most analyst internships hand you a spreadsheet and a corner. Here, you will be in the room where processes get redesigned and applications get built, and your observations will directly shape what we ship. You will learn a modern AI-assisted analysis workflow, see how a real energy business runs end to end, and leave with the rarest skill on any resume: the ability to walk into a messy situation, figure out what is actually going on, and say something useful about it.
