Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The IT Support Technician reports to the Director, Information Technology and provides hands-on technical support to employees and operational teams across Katalyst’s UK locations, including Sevenoaks and Sittingbourne. This position is responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network connectivity, user access, and infrastructure-related issues to ensure the effective and reliable operation of local technology systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with global IT support teams to escalate and coordinate the resolution of complex technical issues when necessary.

Key Tasks:

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues involving workstations, laptops, printers, peripherals, and related equipment.

Resolve user access and login issues, including VPN, virtual machine access, locked accounts, password resets, and related support requests.

Install, configure, update, and support software and operating systems on Windows and Linux machines.

Troubleshoot local and wide-area network issues, including internet and intranet connectivity, Wi-Fi, VPN links between Sevenoaks, Sittingbourne, Tananger, and connectivity with other Katalyst locations.

Provide on-site desktop, hardware, and end-user support at the Sittingbourne and Sevenoaks offices as required.

Support and maintain server, backup, and general IT infrastructure equipment.

Administer user accounts, permissions, and basic Active Directory and Microsoft 365 tasks.

Maintain accurate records of IT assets, support requests, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions.

Provide hands-on support to the global Hardware team in resolving issues involving magnetic tape drive systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Skills:

-
Proficiency supporting Linux and Windows operating systems.

-
Working knowledge of basic networking concepts and network-connected components, including servers, PCs, disk trays, tape drives, USB drives, barcode scanners, and related devices.

Experience installing, configuring, and upgrading software on Windows and Linux systems.

-
Familiarity with command-line tools and instruction sets in both Linux and Windows environments.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

-
Ability to work independently across multiple sites, prioritize support requests, and resolve issues with minimal supervision.

-
Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills when supporting end users and coordinating with internal IT teams.

-
Full, valid driving license and willingness to travel between Sevenoaks and Sittingbourne as required.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment across the Sevenoaks and Sittingbourne locations. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, and photocopiers, and may also provide support for enterprise IT infrastructure such as firewalls, network switches, UPS units, network cabling, copper and fiber optic connections, and related systems.

This position must be comfortable working with technology hardware and infrastructure components and be able to assess equipment power requirements to ensure compatibility with local 220-240V electrical supply standards.

Physical Demands:

This is an active, hands-on role that requires the IT Support Technician to spend a significant portion of the day standing and moving. The position may involve short bursts of physically demanding activity, such as lifting and relocating computer equipment or navigating stairs. On occasion, tasks may require working in confined or elevated spaces, including under raised computer room floors or above drop ceilings.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time role, and as such, the IT Support Technician is eligible to participate in the regional benefits program available to Katalyst employees.

Core working hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Additional hours, including occasional night, weekend, and holiday work, may be required to fulfill job responsibilities and support operational needs.

Travel:

Occasional movement of IT equipment and travel between office locations may be required to support business operations and project needs. Travel may include visits to sites and offices throughout the United Kingdom and Norway, depending on business requirements. Mileage for authorized offsite meetings, site visits, or business-related errands will be reimbursed at the applicable regional rate.

Required Education and Experience

-
Technical qualification in an IT-related discipline, or equivalent hands-on technical support experience.

-
Experience providing desktop, infrastructure, or end-user IT support across multiple sites is preferred.

-
Experience supporting Windows, Linux, Microsoft 365, basic networking, and hardware troubleshooting is highly valued.

-
Working proficiency in English.
