Clear Air Conditioning is on the hunt for a Rockstar Level 5 HVAC Installer to join our awesome and growing team!
This is a senior-level position within our COI Department, focused primarily on residential HVAC installations, with opportunities to support light commercial projects as needed.
At Level 5, you’re more than an installer — you’re a leader in the field. We’re looking for someone who can confidently run jobs from start to finish, lead and develop other installers, solve problems in the field, maintain labor efficiency, and make sure every system is installed safely, correctly, and to Clear Air standards.

Reports To: Installation Manager
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be drug-free and able to pass new hire and random drug screenings.
- Valid EPA Universal Certification required.
- NATE Core Certification required.
- Installer-related NATE certifications required and must remain current.
- Demonstrate willingness to invest in and maintain the tools required for a Level 5 Installer.
- Demonstrate willingness to participate in ongoing technical and leadership training.
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to train and mentor Level 1–4 installers.
- Demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
Safety Requirements
Employees must be able to safely:
- Work at heights and in tight working conditions using extension and step ladders.
- Operate power tools and hand tools properly and safely.
- Use proper lifting and material-handling procedures.
- Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, bend, twist, and maneuver through various work environments.
- Navigate attic spaces without stepping through, damaging, or falling through ceilings.
- Follow safety requirements when working with sheet metal fabrication equipment and machinery.
- Install gas lines and fittings according to applicable codes and company standards.
- Install refrigerant piping and related components safely and properly.
- Safely and responsibly operate Clear Air vehicles, lifts, trailers, and other company equipment.
- Maintain awareness of jobsite hazards, tools, testing equipment, equipment operation, and surrounding conditions.
Level 5 Requirements
Must possess all Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 qualifications in addition to the following:
- Maintain all required Level 5 tools and equipment.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of HVAC system installation, design, ductwork, refrigeration, gas, electrical, and controls.
- Demonstrate proficiency in residential and light commercial HVAC installations.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of furnaces, air handlers, condensers, heat pumps, mini-splits, and related HVAC equipment.
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of installation layout, system design, equipment placement, and field modifications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in duct sizing, layout, fabrication, and installation.
- Demonstrate proficiency in startup, troubleshooting, testing, and balancing HVAC systems.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of line-voltage and low-voltage wiring, including furnaces, air conditioners, thermostats, relays, transformers, zone controls, accessories, and wiring diagrams.
- Demonstrate basic-to-advanced sheet metal fabrication and the ability to modify or fabricate fittings as needed in the field.
- Understand and apply applicable residential and light commercial codes.
- Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of jobsite safety, tools, testing devices, equipment, and surroundings.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills with homeowners, contractors, representatives, coworkers, and other trades.
- Possess the ability to think critically and creatively to solve field problems.
- Complete required additional HVAC and leadership training, including a minimum of 20 hours of training.
- Attend and participate in leadership training classes.
- Obtain and maintain all required Installer-based NATE certifications.
- Demonstrate the ability to test and balance HVAC systems.
- Demonstrate the ability to train, mentor, and supervise other installers.
- Maintain valid EPA certification.
Regular Duties
- Purchase, replace, and maintain required Level 5 tools.
- Arrive at the jobsite at the scheduled time and location.
- Run HVAC installation projects from start to finish.
- Independently complete installations without direct supervision.
- Supervise and support Install Apprentices, Install Leads, and other installers.
- Support and coordinate multiple installation crews when assigned.
- Complete jobs within established labor budgets and schedules.
- Review project progress with the Installation Manager and communicate any delays or concerns.
- Review upcoming work and identify required materials, equipment, tools, and manpower needs.
- Properly document labor, materials, equipment, and job progress.
- Perform startup and troubleshooting of furnaces, air handlers, condensers, heat pumps, and related HVAC equipment.
- Test and balance residential and light commercial HVAC systems.
- Install and troubleshoot low-voltage and line-voltage systems.
- Install and troubleshoot thermostats, zoning systems, UV lights, duct detectors, test stations, and other HVAC accessories.
- Install residential and light commercial HVAC equipment according to plans, specifications, codes, and Clear Air standards.
- Assist with retrofit and light commercial installations as directed.
- Assist with equipment layout, ductwork design, fabrication, and field modifications.
- Maintain professional appearance and attitude at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
- Load and unload trucks with supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory according to Clear Air standards.
- Participate in truck and inventory inspections.
- Promptly report problems with company tools, vehicles, equipment, or materials.
- Train and mentor Level 1–4 installers.
- Provide constructive feedback and support the development of less-experienced installers.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, contractors, representatives, supervisors, coworkers, and other trades.
- Attend and participate in employee meetings, safety meetings, technical training, and leadership development.
- Follow all Clear Air policies, procedures, safety requirements, and operational standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skill AdvancementWithin 6 Months to 1 Year of Promotion to Level 5
The employee must independently demonstrate the following skills while maintaining Clear Air quality standards and established labor budgets:
- Review projects with the Installation Manager and maintain a three-day look-ahead for materials, equipment, tools, and manpower needs.
- Complete all required paperwork daily and accurately record labor hours and materials used.
- Complete projects at or below budgeted labor hours while maintaining Clear Air quality standards.
- Proficiently install residential HVAC systems and mini-splits to applicable codes and Clear Air standards.
- Communicate effectively with homeowners and other trades and resolve minor customer concerns professionally.
- Demonstrate knowledge of crane and rooftop safety when applicable.
- Demonstrate proficiency with 208/230V three-phase wiring.
- Safely remove and install rooftop equipment when required.
- Demonstrate knowledge of proper installation of curb adapters and rooftop units.
- Install and commission mini-split systems.
- Fabricate or modify duct fittings in the field when necessary.
- Maintain overall quality, organization, cleanliness, and safety of the jobsite.
- Train and mentor Level 1–4 installers assigned to the job.
- Independently install multi-family, single-family, and custom residential HVAC systems to Clear Air standards.
- Wire HVAC low-voltage systems, including furnaces, air conditioning systems, thermostats, zone controls, UV lights, duct detectors, and test stations.
- Demonstrate proficiency in HVAC system design, installation, ductwork, troubleshooting, and related functions.
- Read and understand complete project plans, including HVAC plans and applicable plans for other trades.
- Set equipment, curbs, accessories, and related components according to project plans and specifications.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, employees may be required to:

- Use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, materials, and controls.

- Lift and/or move materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds, with assistance when necessary.
- Perform repetitive physical tasks associated with HVAC installation.
