Job Description

Who will you be working with?

In alignment with Wabtec’s Vision, Mission, and Values, be responsible for supporting the Production Manager in the coordination of workshop production activities that contributes to the overall achievement of business goals and objectives.

The Team Leader plays a critical role in driving operational performance, employee engagement and customer satisfaction by providing day-to-day leadership, coaching and support to the team. The role ensures work is planned and executed safely, efficiently and to a high standard, while developing team capability, fostering accountability and promoting a positive workplace culture. By acting as the link between employees and management, the Team Leader helps deliver business objectives, improve service outcomes and create an environment where people can perform at their best and contribute to continuous improvement.

What will your typical day look like?

- Lead and comply with EHS & Quality requirements in accordance with Wabtec policy and procedures.

- Support the Production Manager with the coordination of workshop production activities in the designated area/s to achieve the delivery of the production plan, production KPI’s and customer commitments.

- Lead and/or conduct the overhaul, repair, modification, troubleshooting, investigations and/or testing of products is carried out in accordance with relevant work instructions, test specifications, drawings, bulletins, production processes, EHS and quality requirements.

- Lead and/or conduct the troubleshooting of faults, investigations, inspections, and new product introduction relevant to production related EHS, quality and technical matters.

- Conduct any other Service Technician duties and relieve the Production Manager as required.

- Work with other Operations team members as well as business support functions such as EHS, Quality and Engineering for support in resolving risks and issues that can or have impacted Production.

- Mentor and guide Production team members with any relevant production process, procedures, and technical knowledge to support the achievement of production team goals.

- Facilitate pre-start and/or visual board meetings as required ensuring all items raised are captured and escalated through to the Production Manager or other site functional leads as necessary.

- Promote and lead by example with continuous improvement, lean and 5S initiatives.

- Coordinate with sub-contractors and suppliers for production requirements as required.

- Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customer contacts.

- Resolve issues and negotiate favourable outcomes in a professional manner.

- Lead by example to ensure the working environment, plant, tooling and equipment is always maintained to a safe, clean and orderly condition.

- Lead by example to ensure all plant, tooling and equipment has prestart checks and/or preventive maintenance carried out prior to use in accordance with relevant requirements.

- Take ownership of responsibilities and actively contribute towards the achievement of business performance goals, delivery timeframes and customer satisfaction.

- Willing to work outside or beyond normal hours to support business requirements.

- Domestic or International travel may be required.

- Perform other related duties as required to support business requirements.

Qualifications

What do we want to know about you?

Essential Experience

- Certificate 3 in Engineering - Mechanical/Electrical Trade and/or higher.

- Five years or more related trade experience in a manufacturing or services environment.

- Effective organisational, time management, multi-tasking, and communication skills.

- Sound computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and MRP/ERP systems.

- Current Driver’s license.

Desirable Experience

- Previous leadership experience in a leading hand and/or team leader capacity.

- An understanding of the rail industry framework & related technical issues that arise.

- Previous experience completing overhaul, repairs and testing to air brake equipment installed on Passenger, Locomotive and Freight rollingstock.

- Currently Hold or willing to obtain qualifications for – Forklift, Overhead Gantry Crane, First Aid, Fire Warden, Rail Industry Worker.
