Tasks

Site Supervision & Delivery

- Supervise the day-to-day delivery of highway improvement works across allocated work fronts, including direct labour and subcontractors.

- Coordinate site activities to ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, RAMS and ITP requirements.

- Plan and coordinate labour, plant and materials for upcoming activities, ensuring resources are available when required.

- Drive site productivity and progress against the short-term programme, identifying and resolving practical constraints affecting delivery.

Health, Safety & Environmental Management

- Implement and maintain safe systems of work in accordance with company procedures, approved RAMS and statutory requirements.

- Deliver daily briefings, safe starts and toolbox talks relevant to the planned activities.

- Supervise the Permit to Dig process and ensure works are coordinated with utility records, service locations and site engineering controls.

- Oversee traffic management arrangements within the work area, ensuring they are installed and maintained in accordance with approved traffic management plans.

- Monitor site activities for compliance with environmental controls, temporary works requirements and agreed working methods.

- Identify hazards, unsafe conditions and poor working practices, and take immediate corrective action where required.

Programme & Planning

- Drive the daily and short-term site programme for the allocated work fronts.

- Contribute to the preparation and review of 2-week and 6-week look-ahead programmes.

- Coordinate daily and weekly work plans with the Agent, engineers, supervisors and subcontractors to maintain an efficient sequence of works.

- Provide regular updates on progress, constraints, labour, plant, materials and upcoming resource requirements.

Engineering & Technical Support

- Work closely with Site Engineers to ensure works are set out correctly and constructed to the required line, level and specification.

- Provide practical buildability, access and sequencing input to support efficient delivery of highway improvement works.

- Coordinate interfaces associated with drainage, earthworks, kerbing, pavement construction, surfacing, utilities and other highway-related activities.

Quality Management

- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with the project quality plan, ITPs, hold points and inspection requirements.

- Carry out regular checks on workmanship, materials and completed works, raising issues where standards are not being achieved.

- Support inspections, testing, snagging and close-out activities, including provision of information required for as-built records.

Communication & Leadership

- Act as a key day-to-day point of contact on site for supervisors, labour, subcontractors and the project team.

- Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example in site standards and behaviours.

- Coordinate and support foremen, supervisors and site gangs to maintain safe and productive working.

- Escalate significant safety, quality, programme or resource issues promptly to the Agent / Construction Manager, together with proposed solutions where possible.

Qualifications

- Proven experience as a General Foreman on highway or civil engineering projects.

- Strong practical background in highway improvements, including earthworks, drainage, kerbing, pavement construction and surfacing.

- Experience delivering works in or adjacent to live highway environments and working under traffic management arrangements.

- Good understanding of Permit to Dig requirements, underground services and utility coordination.

- Good working knowledge of traffic management requirements and site safety controls.

- Ability to coordinate labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and multiple work fronts effectively.

- Strong communication, leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills.

- SSSTS or SMSTS (SMSTS advantageous).

- CSCS Supervisor card or other appropriate card.

- Temporary Works Supervisor (advantageous).

- First Aid at Work (desirable).

- NRSWA Supervisor (desirable).
