Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP), a leading renewable energy company in the Philippines focused on delivering high-quality and cost-competitive solar energy projects, is looking for a technically skilled and hands-on Project Engineer to lead and support the design, planning, coordination, and execution of rooftop, commercial, and utility-scale solar PV projects from initial design through construction, testing, and commissioning

JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Engineer will be responsible for the technical design, planning, coordination, and execution of rooftop, commercial, and utility-scale solar PV projects from initial design through construction, testing, and commissioning.

This role combines solar PV engineering and design expertise with project execution and coordination responsibilities. The position will develop and review construction-ready engineering deliverables, coordinate with Sales, Procurement, Operations, Construction, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

The Project Engineer will ensure that projects are technically sound, constructible, delivered according to approved designs and specifications, and completed within the required schedule, budget, quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Solar PV Design & Engineering

- Lead and/or support the preparation of engineering deliverables for rooftop, commercial, and utility-scale solar PV projects.

- Verify initial system layouts, equipment locations, and project requirements provided by the Sales Team.

- Develop construction-ready PV system designs based on project requirements, site conditions, applicable standards, and engineering best practices.

- Prepare and review site plans, PV layouts, solar mounting drawings, Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Rapid Shutdown Device and stringing plans, cable tray layouts, grounding system designs, inverter and equipment layouts, electrical designs and calculations, Bill of Materials (BOM), and equipment specifications/specification sheets.

- Review engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and other technical documents for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.

- Evaluate design alternatives and recommend technically and commercially appropriate equipment and solutions.

- Understand the optimal applications and design limitations of standard products and evaluate alternative products when required.

- Utilize AutoCAD and applicable solar design software, including PVSyst where required.

2. Project Planning & Technical Coordination

- Support and/or lead the end-to-end technical execution of solar projects from design through commissioning.

- Develop and maintain project plans covering scope, schedule, technical requirements, resources, risks, and key milestones.

- Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Logistics, Construction, and Operations to ensure alignment on project requirements and deliverables.

- Provide detailed project information, engineering documents, and BOMs to Procurement and Operations to facilitate timely sourcing and execution.

- Coordinate technical requirements with suppliers and subcontractors.

- Monitor project progress against approved plans and identify potential technical issues, delays, or deviations.

- Participate in project kick-off meetings, progress meetings, technical discussions, and stakeholder updates.

3. Construction & Site Execution

- Conduct site visits to monitor project progress, quality, workmanship, and adherence to approved engineering designs.

- Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning.

- Resolve technical issues encountered during construction and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.

- Review field conditions and coordinate necessary design adjustments or revisions.

- Ensure construction activities are performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and safety requirements.

- Coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure proper implementation of engineering requirements.

4. Client & Stakeholder Coordination

- Serve as a technical point of contact for clients during project execution.

- Coordinate with clients regarding technical requirements, design considerations, project updates, and site-related concerns.

- Manage technical expectations and ensure that agreed project requirements are properly translated into engineering and construction deliverables.

- Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, engineering documentation, and other stakeholder reports.

- Provide engineering support to Sales, Operations, Service, and other internal departments as needed.

5. Quality, Compliance & Documentation

- Ensure project designs and execution comply with relevant local regulations, PEC/IEC standards, international standards, and applicable construction practices.

- Support quality assurance and quality control activities throughout design, construction, testing, and commissioning.

- Review and maintain accurate engineering and project documentation.

- Maintain documentation required for audits, inspections, certifications, turnover, and project closeout.

- Identify technical and construction risks and support the implementation of appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

- Promote adherence to company standards for safety, sustainability, quality, and engineering integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.

- Must hold a valid PRC License.

- Preferably 2–3 years of relevant experience in solar PV design, project engineering, EPC project execution, or a combination thereof.

- Strong understanding of solar PV systems, electrical design, construction workflows, and EPC project lifecycles.

- Proven experience preparing or reviewing solar PV engineering deliverables.

- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.

- Experience with PVSyst and other solar design software is an advantage.

- Familiarity with power system studies and substation design is preferred.

- Strong understanding of PEC/IEC standards and construction practices.

- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

- Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Excellent coordination and stakeholder management skills.

- Ability to manage multiple projects and engineering deliverables simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

- Strong time management and prioritization skills in a high-pressure project environment.

- Willingness to conduct site visits and travel to project locations as required.

- Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies in a dynamic renewable energy environment.

- Willing to travel to project sites as required.
