Role Description The Principal AI Consultant is a full-time, on-site role based in Auckland, responsible for leading AI strategy, solution design, and implementation for client engagements. This role involves partnering with stakeholders to understand business objectives, translating them into AI use cases, and overseeing end-to-end delivery of data science and machine learning solutions. Day-to-day activities include conducting discovery workshops, developing architectures, guiding pattern recognition and NLP approaches, reviewing technical work, and ensuring solutions integrate effectively with client data platforms. The Principal AI Consultant will mentor team members, contribute to thought leadership, prepare proposals, and support pre-sales activities to grow Venn’s AI consulting practice. Collaboration with internal and client teams is central to the role, with a strong focus on practical outcomes, ethical AI practices, and measurable business value.
Qualifications
- Strong data science and machine learning skills, including experience building, evaluating, and deploying predictive models.
- Expertise in pattern recognition and natural language processing (NLP) for real-world business applications.
- Demonstrated consulting skills, including stakeholder engagement, requirements discovery, and translating business needs into technical solutions.
- Hands-on experience with modern AI/ML tools and platforms (e.g., Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, cloud ML services).
- Solid understanding of data engineering concepts, data platforms, and MLOps practices for production-ready AI solutions.
- Proven ability to lead projects, mentor technical teams, and deliver outcomes within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex AI topics to non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working with enterprise clients and designing scalable, secure, and ethical AI solutions is highly beneficial.
- Eligibility to work on-site in Auckland and willingness to collaborate closely with clients and colleagues in person.
