Amazon Japan Legal is looking for an experienced, smart, and motivated attorney to support our rapidly growing transportation and logistics business in Japan. The position reports to the operation and logistics legal lead in Japan.

The Operations Legal team supports Amazon's global logistics and transportation business that fulfills orders and delivers packages to customers. We advise on the infrastructure, transportation networks, and technology that make deliveries happen; from transporting items into and out of fulfillment sites, to middle-mile linehaul, to delivering packages to the customer's doorstep through our channels. Operations Legal plays a key role in the innovation and technology that make Amazon's products and services best in class.

This position will be responsible for supporting Amazon's rapidly growing transportation and delivery business in Japan, with a primary focus on last-mile delivery, including new and innovative businesses and services. You will serve as the primary lawyer responsible for counseling the business on a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters across transportation and delivery in Japan. You will work directly with the business, serving as counsel on compliance challenges arising from the rapidly evolving regulatory environment; advising on strategic deals and on the launch of new products and services; negotiating, structuring, and drafting complex commercial transactions; coordinating with public policy and engaging with regulators to influence pending legislation and rule-making and in response to regulatory inquiries; and advising on compliance requirements and assisting the business in designing and implementing risk-tested and scalable compliance. You will also advise on cutting-edge legal questions at the frontier of delivery, including new types of delivery vehicles and delivery methods enabled by the latest technology.

At Amazon, you will work alongside the latest AI and Generative AI (GenAI) tools that are increasingly woven into how legal teams operate, from AI-powered capabilities that accelerate research and analysis to GenAI that helps you focus on the work that matters most. You will have the opportunities and resources to develop AI fluency at your own pace, with continuous learning built into our culture.

This position will be based in Amazon Japan's Meguro office.

- Identify legal risks in a fast-changing environment and design scalable, risk-tested compliance mechanisms.

A day in the life

A typical day involves providing practical, business-focused legal support across a range of commercial and regulatory matters in the transportation and delivery space. You will draft and negotiate agreements with delivery and logistics partners, advise internal stakeholders on the transportation program and new delivery models, and manage ongoing legal and regulatory risks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
