Functional Safety for AI – Technical Lead / AI Safety / Automotive / Embedded Systems / ISO 26262
We are currently partnered with a technology organisation developing advanced AI and embedded systems for safety-critical applications. As part of their continued development of safe, certifiable, and deployable AI-based systems, they are looking to hire a Functional Safety for AI – Technical Lead to drive system safety architecture, lead Safe AI innovation projects, and help shape the organisation’s longer-term safety and AI technology roadmap.
This is a technical leadership role combining system safety architecture, AI/ML, functional safety, innovation, and team leadership. You will work across multiple project horizons and collaborate closely with architecture, safety, engineering, product, and applications teams.
Key responsibilities
- Own the execution of AI safety across projects by translating the broader Safety & AI technology roadmap into innovation projects
- Define system safety concepts for AI-driven features in collaboration with other technical experts
- Translate AI behaviour and system characteristics into appropriate safety requirements and mechanisms
- Design and assess fail-safe and fail-operational behaviours for AI-enabled embedded systems
- Coordinate innovation projects across new product introduction and application engineering teams
- Collaborate with development and enablement teams to evolve engineering processes and incorporate emerging safety standards and practices
- Apply model validation, robustness testing, fault injection, and runtime safety mechanisms to AI-based systems
Key requirements
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience of ISO 26262 / automotive functional safety
- Strong understanding of the safety and AI landscape, particularly for safety-critical embedded applications
- 10+ years of experience architecting, designing, and validating safety-critical embedded systems
- Significant experience working within automotive environments
- Strong understanding of AI and machine learning technologies within embedded systems
- Experience defining system safety architectures and safety concepts
- Experience translating system and AI behaviour into safety requirements
