We’re hiring a Founding Editor to build Authority’s media arm from scratch.
Authority is building a new kind of future-intelligence company. We produce granular forecasts, outlooks, and forward-looking intelligence across industries and geographies, ultimately helping AI agents make better decisions about the future. A huge part of that vision is human.
We want to build a global network of the smartest people actually operating on the front lines of their industries: engineers, executives, investors, researchers, operators, policymakers, and domain specialists. We want to continuously capture what they are seeing before it becomes obvious to everyone else.
We might speak with a data-center developer in London, a mining executive in Argentina, a semiconductor specialist in Taiwan, and an energy-market expert in Texas, all in the same day.
The Founding Editor will build the institution around that.
What you’ll build
You’ll have enormous ownership. This is not a role where you inherit an editorial calendar. You’ll create and own the media operation from zero.
You will:
- Recruit and develop a global network of exceptional industry experts, correspondents, and Authority ambassadors.
- Interview some of the smartest people in highly specialized industries around the world.
- Develop recurring monthly expert briefings that capture what is changing, what matters, and what people on the ground expect to happen next.
- Turn expert conversations, Authority forecasts, and proprietary research into compelling reports, articles, interviews, newsletters, and industry outlooks.
- Build repeatable editorial formats that can eventually operate across hundreds or thousands of sub-industries.
- Identify the experts we absolutely need to know in every market Authority enters, and convince them to participate.
- Help establish Authority as the place people go to understand what happens next, rather than simply what has already happened.
- Work closely with our forecasting and research teams so quantitative forecasts and qualitative frontline intelligence strengthen each other.
- Eventually help build and lead a much larger editorial team.
This is not traditional business journalism
We are not trying to cover yesterday’s news faster. We’re building a global intelligence network around the future. A great Authority piece should leave someone thinking:
“I didn’t know that was happening yet.”
or:
“That changes how I think the next six months will play out.”
The long-term opportunity is to have thousands of deeply credible experts contributing structured intelligence from their respective fields, alongside Authority’s quantitative forecasts.
Who we’re looking for
You are probably unusually curious. You love talking to people who know far more about obscure subjects than almost anyone else. You can speak with a CEO in the morning and spend the afternoon becoming obsessed with something like submarine cable capacity, lithium refining, nuclear permitting, or commercial roofing.
You are comfortable building rather than simply editing.
You likely have some combination of:
- Exceptional interviewing and writing ability.
- Strong editorial judgment.
- An instinct for finding genuinely knowledgeable people rather than merely famous ones.
- The confidence to reach senior people cold and build relationships quickly.
- Intellectual curiosity across business, technology, industry, economics, and geopolitics.
- High standards for accuracy and credibility.
- The ability to turn complicated specialist knowledge into clear, useful intelligence.
- A desire to build something much larger than a publication.
Experience at a great publication, research organization, expert network, intelligence company, or specialist industry outlet could be useful.
But we care much more about taste, curiosity, energy, and the ability to build.
Why this role is unusual
You would be joining at the beginning. You won’t just be Authority’s first editor.
You will have the opportunity to define what Authority media becomes: its voice, formats, expert network, editorial standards, and eventually its team.
Our ambition is to build one of the world’s most valuable networks of industry expertise, connecting quantitative forecasts with the judgment of extraordinary people on the ground.
If the idea of spending your career meeting brilliant people across thousands of industries sounds ridiculously fun, we should talk.
