Our client, a leader in advanced manufacturing and optical technologies, is seeking a Optical Fiber Process Development Engineer / Scientist to join their team. As a Optical Fiber Process Development Engineer / Scientist, you will be part of the R&D department supporting process optimization and innovation initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, collaborative spirit, and a proactive approach, which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title:Optical Fiber Process Development Engineer / Scientist

Location:Boston, Massachusetts

Pay Range:$160,000 - $200,000

What's the Job?

- Lead the development, tuning, and optimization of advanced fiber draw and preform processing technologies to maximize geometric uniformity, optical performance, and throughput.

- Investigate the physical relationships between furnace/draw process parameters, high-temperature glass flow, material properties, and final fiber characteristics.

- Systematically identify root causes of optical and mechanical fiber defects; design engineering solutions to resolve draw instability, tension variations, and geometry drift.

- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design, modify, and integrate custom mechanical tooling, thermal control systems, and automated inline measurement systems.

- Plan, execute, and analyze systematic process trials and DOE (Design of Experiments) to achieve technical milestones and establish robust process windows.

What's Needed?

- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related quantitative field.

- Demonstrated experience in a highly technical manufacturing, industrial, or advanced R&D environment focused on process development, equipment integration, or material processing.

- Background in optical fiber draw technology, preform processing, high-temperature glass dynamics, or precision mechanical equipment design is strongly preferred.

- Hands-on proficiency in mechanical design, tooling, and electro-mechanical control systems integration.

- Experience in software scripting/programming for data analysis, process automation, or sensor integration (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW).
