Role Description The Associate Editor is a full-time, on-site role based in Geneseo, NY, responsible for supporting the editorial team in producing clear, accurate, and engaging content. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing and editing articles for grammar, style, and consistency; fact-checking and verifying sources; and coordinating with writers, reporters, and senior editors to refine story ideas and angles. The Associate Editor will help manage editorial calendars, ensure deadlines are met, and assist in preparing content for print and digital publication. The role may also involve writing short pieces or headlines, organizing submissions, and contributing to the improvement of editorial workflows and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Strong editing and proofreading skills, with meticulous attention to grammar, style, and accuracy.
- Excellent writing and communication abilities, including clear, concise, and audience-focused content creation.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
- Comfort collaborating with writers, reporters, and designers, with a professional, inclusive, and team-oriented approach.
- Proficiency with common editorial and publishing tools (e.g., word processing, content management systems); familiarity with AP style is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Prior experience in news, magazine, or digital media editing is beneficial; interest in local and regional issues is a plus.
