I'm working with a rapidly growing European aerospace and defence organisation developing advanced UAV and autonomous systems, and they're looking for a Technical Documentation / S1000D Specialist to join their team.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in building and developing the technical publications capability for highly advanced aerospace and defence programmes.
🛠️ The Role
As the Technical Documentation / S1000D Specialist, you'll become a key point of reference for technical publications across multiple programmes.
You'll work closely with Engineering, Configuration Management, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and Programme teams, ensuring that technical documentation is accurate, compliant and aligned with the engineering baseline throughout the product lifecycle.
You'll be involved in everything from S1000D implementation and technical authoring through to Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals, documentation governance and customer acceptance.
What you'll be doing
• Develop, maintain and manage technical documentation in line with S1000D standards
• Create and maintain operator manuals, maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogues and other technical publications
• Manage documentation updates, revisions and change control throughout the product lifecycle
• Ensure technical documentation remains aligned with engineering data and configuration baselines
• Support the implementation and management of Common Source Databases and technical authoring environments
• Review, validate and verify documentation produced internally and by external suppliers
• Work closely with Engineering, ILS and Configuration Management teams
• Support customer reviews, audits, qualification activities and documentation acceptance
• Contribute to engineering change management and configuration control
• Develop and improve documentation standards, processes and best practices
• Support bids and proposals with technical publications and support documentation
🔎 What we're looking for
• 2–4 years' experience working with S1000D
• Experience with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
• Experience managing technical documentation throughout its lifecycle
• Good understanding of Configuration Management principles
• Experience working with technical publications within a regulated environment
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Experience with Common Source Databases and XML-based documentation environments is highly advantageous
• Aerospace, defence, UAV or military programme experience is highly desirable
• Understanding of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) is a plus
• Additional European languages would be advantageous
• Degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, Aerospace, Defence, Logistics or a related discipline — or equivalent practical experience

This role would suit someone who enjoys taking complex technical information and turning it into clear, accurate and structured documentation.
You'll need to be highly organised, detail-oriented and comfortable working across multiple technical teams.
It's also an opportunity for someone who wants more than simply maintaining documentation. The organisation is continuing to build its technical publications capability, so you'll have the opportunity to shape processes, introduce best practices and help establish new ways of working.
