Summary:

As a Custom Software Engineer, a typical day involves creating tailored software solutions by designing, coding, and improving various components within systems or applications. The role requires working with contemporary frameworks and following agile methodologies to ensure the delivery of scalable and efficient software that meets unique business requirements. Collaboration with different teams and continuous refinement of software elements are integral parts of the daily workflow, ensuring that solutions remain robust and aligned with evolving project goals.

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Expected to be an SME, collaborate and manage the team to perform.

- Responsible for team decisions.

- Engage with multiple teams and contribute on key decisions.

- Provide solutions to problems for their immediate team and across multiple teams.

- Lead efforts to identify and implement process improvements within the team.

- Mentor junior team members to support their professional growth and skill development.

Test Framework Design and Implementation

Assess the landscape of application types deployed on Risk Fabric and ideate standardized, reusable test automation frameworks suited to Each

Implement those frameworks in a way that is easy to adopt by small, potentially inexperienced development teams

Ensure frameworks cover functional and non functional requirements, enabling applications to evidence their own correct behavior without reliance on manual testing

Integrate test execution into the deployment pipeline so that testing is a natural, low-friction part of the development lifecycle

Platform Level Testing

Develop and maintain tests for the platform infrastructure itself including Terraform-managed deployments

Validate integrations with external data source applications as interfaces are built out

Support the team in establishing SLAs for business modules and define testable compliance criteria for those SLAs

Developer Enablement

Work closely with module development teams to ensure the test frameworks are well documented and straightforward to use

Identify gaps in test coverage early and advocate for a shift left testing culture

Contribute to the local development environment setup to make it easy for developers to run tests locally before pushing changes

Scripting and Tooling

Write Python-based test utilities, helper scripts, and automation tooling as needed

Contribute to CI CD pipeline configuration to integrate automated test execution

What We Are Looking For

Must Have

Proven experience designing and implementing test automation frameworks from scratch, not just operating existing ones

Strong hands on experience with Python both for application development and test scripting

Solid understanding of containerized application deployment (Docker, container-based CI CD workflows)

Experience working with GCP or comparable cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) familiarity with Cloud Run or similar serverless container services is a plus

Experience with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tooling

Comfortable working in a Linux environment

Experience integrating automated tests into CI CD pipelines

Fluent in German and English (business level in both)

Nice-to-Have

Experience testing microservices or event-driven architectures

Familiarity with the banking or financial services sector, including awareness of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to software

quality

Experience with API testing frameworks and tools

Background in or exposure to DevOps practices

Experience with database migration tooling (e.g., Oracle DB) or testing database-layer changes

Mindset

Comfortable with ambiguity and greenfield work — you will be making decisions that shape how testing is done across the platform long-term

Pragmatic: able to balance thoroughness with the pace of an early-stage platform build

Collaborative: willing to work closely with developers and the platform owner to understand what good looks like for each application type

Self-directed: able to identify what needs to be done without waiting to be told

Engagement Details

Start: As soon as possible (onboarding typically takes 1 month)

Duration: Order will be made for 2026, we plan a prolongation for 2027

Workload: Minimum 4 days per week

Location: Fully remote monthly on-site visits to Leipzig appreciated for team-building if possible

Languages: English, at a business fluency level, German preferred

Required visits to Leipzig: None required, set-up can be performed remotely

Context: What Risk Fabric Is Building

Risk Fabric is a Platform as a Service, deployed on GCP, designed to enable small and potentially less experienced development teams to build, deploy, and maintain business-process applications — here being called modules — without needing deep infrastructure expertise.

The platform aims to:

Provide standardized frameworks for development, testing, and deployment that keep teams compliant with internal and regulatory standards

by default

Largely eliminate manual testing through automation, so that modules can demonstrate their own correctness

Establish SLAs that modules must meet, with governance enforced at the platform level through automation rather than manual oversight

Integrate test management and reporting (via Jira Xray) with the developed testing frameworks

Professional & Technical Skills:

- Must To Have Skills: Proficiency in Test Management.

- Strong knowledge of test planning, execution, and defect tracking processes.

- Experience with test automation tools and frameworks to enhance testing efficiency.

- Ability to analyze complex software systems to identify potential testing challenges.

- Familiarity with quality assurance methodologies and best practices.

- Excellent problem-solving skills to address testing-related issues effectively.

Additional Information:

- The candidate should have minimum 8 years of experience in Test Management.

- This position is based at our PDC2C - SEZ location.

- A 15 years full time education is required.
