Plan It UK is a residential architectural design and structural engineering firm working across London, Kent, Essex, and the surrounding areas. We help homeowners bring their extension and loft conversion projects to life — from first sketch through to planning approval and on to build. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Architectural Designer to join our team in Bexleyheath.
About the role
You'll be the client-facing lead on a portfolio of residential projects, translating homeowners' briefs into design scope sketches and notes that our architectural technicians take through to drafting. You'll manage a small team of technicians, keep multiple projects moving at once, and see schemes through to a submitted planning application. This is a role for someone who's as comfortable running a design meeting with a client as they are getting into the detail of the council's planning process.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out design meetings with clients, both remotely and in person, to discuss their project and requirements
- Preparing design scope sketches and notes, ready to issue to architectural technicians for drafting
- Managing a team of technicians, keeping their workload on track
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously, each at different stages of the design cycle
- Submitting planning applications and steering them through the council process
- Acting as a confident point of contact for clients, contractors, and planning officers throughout each project
What we're looking for
- Around 5 years' experience in residential design, with extension experience essential
- Strong knowledge of the council planning process
- A sharp eye for detail
- Excellent self-management — able to prioritise and keep several projects on track without close supervision
- A great work ethic and a real sense of urgency when it's needed
- Confident, clear communication with clients, contractors, and planning officers alike
- Experience managing or mentoring junior technicians is a plus
Why join Plan It UK
- You'll be part of a close-knit, established team with a strong pipeline of residential projects across London, Kent, and Essex, and real scope to shape how the design side of the business runs as we grow.
