- Writes production code daily, conducts code reviews, and works continuously on code quality, testability, and maintainability improvements across the team
- Performs advanced development, support, and implementation of complex systems using specialized domain knowledge and highly developed business expertise
- Partners with Architects on low-level design — translating target-state architecture and reference patterns into detailed component designs, interface contracts, and implementation plans
- Leads large projects and programs with limited or no oversight, from design through production deployment and stabilization
- Evaluates business and software industry trends and suggests improvements to processes, products, and services
- Proposes and champions new ideas, technologies, and process improvements that enhance the development process and product quality; runs POCs to substantiate the case
- Sets standards to deliver high-quality products and services, and sets high standards for self and others
- Backend: builds Java microservices and REST APIs with Spring Boot — service decomposition, API design and versioning, resilience patterns (timeouts, retries, circuit breakers), and secure-by-default implementation
- Frontend: builds and owns ReactJS / AngularJS applications — component architecture, state management, SPA and SSR rendering strategy, accessibility, and Core Web Vitals performance; owns the API-to-UI contract
- Integration: designs and implements event-driven flows with Kafka and JMS / ActiveMQ — partitioning and consumer design, idempotency, retry and dead-letter strategy, replay, and reconciliation
- Data: models and tunes relational and NoSQL stores for access patterns — indexing, query profiling, sharding and partition keys, caching strategy, and schema migration without downtime
- Cloud & Delivery builds and operates cloud-native services on Azure or GCP within the established landing zone — containerized with Docker and Kubernetes, delivered through CI/CD with automated test, quality, and security gates
- Quality: owns the automated testing strategy for their areas across the pyramid — JUnit / TestNG and Mockito, Rest-Assured or Karate for APIs, Jest for components, and Selenium / Playwright / Cucumber for end-to-end
- Performance: analyses and tunes application performance under high-volume, high-availability conditions — JVM and GC tuning, profiling, query optimization, and capacity planning ahead of peak trading
- Production: runs what they build with an SRE mindset — SLIs and SLOs, structured logging, metrics and distributed tracing, graceful degradation, incident response, and on-call participation
- Mentors' senior and mid-level engineers through pairing, design coaching, and review feedback, and raises the engineering bar through reference implementations rather than mandate
