Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, development, and maintenance of our Android mobile applications, ensuring scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
- Set technical direction for the Android codebase, making key decisions on frameworks, patterns, and tooling.
- Champion and embed AI-native development practices across the product development lifecycle — from AI-assisted planning and design through AI-augmented coding, testing, and release.
- Write clean, maintainable code and lead peer code reviews, with an excellent, hands-on understanding of core Android concepts.
- Write unit and integration tests for your code, and establish testing standards and coverage goals for the team, leveraging AI for test generation and coverage analysis.
- Work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical feasibility, leveraging AI tools to accelerate discovery, prototyping, and estimation.
- Collaborate with designers, product owners, web service developers, and other teams to produce the best applications possible, and represent the Android team in cross-functional and planning discussions.
- Mentor and guide Android engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical coaching, including coaching on effective use of AI coding assistants and tools.
- Evaluate and introduce new Android technologies, tools, and trends — including emerging AI-assisted development tools — and drive their adoption where they add value.
- Define and iterate on team workflows to incorporate AI-native PDLC practices (e.g., AI-assisted code generation, automated test generation, AI-powered code review, and documentation).
- Act as the primary point of contact for Android-related technical questions across teams.
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback for Android team members.
Skills Required
- 5+ years of professional experience as an Android Engineer, including prior experience leading or mentoring engineers.
- Deep expertise in Kotlin, with a strong track record of shipping production Android apps at scale.
- Must have experience: Kotlin Coroutines, Retrofit, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, 1+ YoE as the Team/Tech Lead. Strong, hands-on understanding of Robolectric, unit testing, and integration testing, with the ability to set testing standards across the team.
- Good to have experience (a plus): DI frameworks, Espresso, Modular Mobile Application Design.
- Proven track record with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Agile/iterative methodologies, with experience shaping team process.
- Deep knowledge of the idiosyncrasies associated with various mobile platforms, screen resolutions, and mobile OS versions, and ability to guide framework/tooling decisions for the team.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI-native tools and workflows into the product development lifecycle (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI coding assistants) for code generation, review, and testing.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering practices and using AI tools to accelerate design, documentation, and technical decision-making.
- Self-directed and team-oriented, with a strong ability to lead cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead by example on technical execution, including adoption of AI-native development practices.
- English: B2 or higher, strong spoken and written.
