Sweed Machinery is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, test, and implement industrial equipment and engineered solutions. This hands-on role manages projects from concept through implementation, works directly with customers and suppliers, and supports testing, commissioning, and startup in the field.
This is a full-time, onsite position at our Gold Hill, Oregon facility. This role does not support remote or hybrid work arrangements.

Primary Duties
- Design, develop, troubleshoot, and improve industrial equipment and mechanical systems.
- Manage multiple engineering projects from concept through implementation while balancing priorities and deadlines.
- Develop solutions that integrate Sweed equipment with customer facilities and other manufacturers’ equipment.
- Design and test concepts to automate customer-specific processes.
- Review specifications, drawings, and project information to define technical requirements and scope.
- Work directly with customers to understand project needs and clarify technical requirements.
- Collaborate with Controls, Manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to ensure complete system integration.
- Research suppliers and vendors and select appropriate components for the application.
- Perform equipment testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup support.
- Travel to customer and manufacturing locations within the U.S. and Canada as needed, up to approximately 15%.

Education, Experience & Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 8+ years of mechanical engineering or industrial equipment design experience preferred, with significant experience designing machinery, equipment, or engineered systems.
- Proficiency with Solid Edge or similar 3D mechanical design software.
- Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical drive systems.
- Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, and project information and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
- Hands-on experience building, assembling, troubleshooting, or repairing equipment; familiar with common hand and diagnostic tools.
- ERP system experience preferred.
- PLC/HMI familiarity preferred.
- Additional hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical installation, and field troubleshooting experience preferred.
