Job Summary

Job Title: Senior Embedded Engineer

Experience: 12+ Years

Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time

Location: NY

We are seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software and firmware for next-generation products. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in embedded C/C++, microcontrollers, real-time operating systems, hardware/software integration, and debugging.

The Senior Embedded Engineer will work closely with hardware, systems, QA, and product teams to develop reliable, high-performance embedded solutions from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain embedded software and firmware for microcontroller-based systems.

Develop low-level drivers, board support packages (BSPs), and hardware abstraction layers.

Work with C/C++, RTOS, and bare-metal embedded environments.

Integrate and configure peripherals such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, ADC, PWM, GPIO, and Ethernet.

Analyze system requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.

Perform hardware/software integration, debugging, and root-cause analysis.

Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, and other tools to troubleshoot embedded systems.

Optimize firmware for performance, memory usage, power consumption, and reliability.

Develop and execute unit, integration, system, and regression tests.

Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.

Collaborate with hardware engineers to bring up new boards and validate hardware designs.

Troubleshoot production issues and provide corrective and preventive solutions.

Maintain technical documentation, architecture specifications, and development procedures.

Mentor junior embedded engineers and contribute to technical decisions and architecture.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

12+ years of experience in embedded software/firmware development.

Strong programming skills in C and C++.

Hands-on experience with microcontrollers such as ARM Cortex-M, STM32, NXP, TI, Renesas, or similar platforms.

Strong understanding of RTOS concepts, including task scheduling, synchronization, interrupts, queues, semaphores, and memory management.

Experience with embedded communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and TCP/IP.

Strong knowledge of embedded systems architecture, memory management, interrupts, timers, and peripheral interfaces.

Experience with debugging tools such as JTAG/SWD, GDB, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.

Experience with Git or other source-control systems.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Embedded Linux, Yocto, Buildroot, or Linux device drivers.

Experience with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, or other RTOS platforms.

Knowledge of bootloaders, firmware update mechanisms, and secure boot.

Experience with ARM architectures and low-level processor programming.

Familiarity with CI/CD and automated firmware testing.

Experience with Python or scripting for test automation and development tools.

Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts for embedded systems.

Experience developing safety-critical or regulated products such as automotive, medical, industrial, or aerospace systems.

Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
