Senior BI Developer (Contract) – Perth (Hybrid: 3 Days Onsite / 2 Remote)
We’re looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to join a high-performing data team delivering modern analytics solutions across the business. This is a full-time contract role, initially for 3 months, with a strong likelihood of extension.
This is an ABN Contract.
Key Responsibilities
BI & Analytics Development
- Engage with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into effective BI solutions
- Design and deliver high-quality dashboards and reports using Power BI, Power Query, and related tools
- Develop robust semantic models to support scalable, reusable analytics
- Interpret complex datasets to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for the business
- Present findings in a clear, concise, and business-friendly manner
Data Engineering & Integration
- Build, maintain, and enhance data pipelines and integration workflows (ETL/ELT)
- Work with structured and unstructured data from a variety of internal and external sources
- Support and optimise enterprise data platforms, including data warehouses and data lake architectures
- Integrate data via APIs (e.g., REST) where required
- Drive improvements in data processing efficiency through automation and orchestration
Platform Ownership & Optimisation
- Ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of BI and analytics solutions
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, reports, and platform performance issues
- Maintain strong data governance practices, ensuring data quality, security, and consistency
- Contribute to platform administration activities across Power BI and Microsoft Fabric
Service Delivery & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a trusted partner for business users on all BI and data-related matters
- Provide ongoing support for dashboards, reports, and data solutions
- Manage incidents and service requests in line with agreed SLAs
- Build strong working relationships across both business and technology teams
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Create and maintain clear documentation for data models, reports, and technical processes
- Establish and follow best practices for BI development and deployment
- Identify opportunities to improve data workflows, reporting capabilities, and delivery processes
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Senior BI Developer in a complex data environment
- Advanced capability in Power BI development (reports, dashboards, data models)
- Strong expertise in DAX for calculations and performance optimisation
- Solid SQL skills, including data manipulation and database design
- Experience working with APIs (e.g., REST) for data ingestion
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Power BI administration
- Strong understanding of data modelling techniques (e.g., dimensional modelling)
- Good grasp of modern data architecture patterns (e.g., medallion architecture)
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Strong focus on data quality, governance, and reliability
Desirable Skills
- Experience in hybrid environments combining on-premises and cloud platforms
- Exposure to broader Microsoft data stack tools and services
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools such as Azure DevOps
- Experience using Python for data processing (e.g., Pandas, Spark)
- Understanding of data engineering principles and tooling
