Lead Java Backend Developer
About the Role
Experience: More than eight years of backend software engineering experience, supported by formal training or certification in software engineering fundamentals.
Responsibilities
- End-to-end ownership: Design, build, test, deploy, and operate backend services throughout the full software development life cycle using agile ways of working.
- Java (8/11/17): Strong proficiency in core Java, including lambda expressions and streams, functional programming concepts, collections, exception handling, file input and output, and multithreading and concurrency; strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and problem solving.
- Spring Boot: Hands-on experience with annotations, dependency injection, inversion of control, automatic configuration, environment profiles, building representational state transfer application programming interfaces, Spring model view controller, transaction management, Actuator endpoints, and production readiness practices.
- Data persistence: Experience building efficient data access layers using Spring Data Java Persistence API, with strong awareness of relational modeling and performance tuning.
- Application programming interface design: Design and evolve representational state transfer services with input validation, versioning, consistent error handling, and operational endpoints such as health checks and metrics.
- Security: Implement authentication and authorization with Spring Security, including JSON Web Tokens, Open Authorization, Kerberos, and password encoding; apply secure application programming interface controls including cross-origin resource sharing configuration.
- System design: Produce and apply high-level design and low-level design; apply microservices patterns and Java design patterns with a focus on resiliency, scalability, and maintainability.
- Quality and testing: Write and maintain automated tests using JUnit and or Cucumber, perform code reviews, and debug complex issues; drive root-cause fixes and automate recurring remediation.
- Build, integration, and deployment tooling: Use Maven or Gradle for builds, Jenkins for continuous integration and continuous delivery, Docker for containerization, and Kubernetes for container orchestration.
- Cloud exposure: Working familiarity with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including cloud-native principles.
Qualifications
- Additional strengths (preferred): Event-driven systems and messaging or streaming platforms such as Kafka; observability practices including logs, metrics, traces, alerting, and incident-driven improvements; infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform.
- Artificial intelligence assisted development: Familiarity with GitHub Copilot, Claude-class assistants, and relevant Visual Studio Code extensions, with responsible usage and strong engineering controls.
