Forward Deployed Engineer (Platform & DevOps) | Global Observability Software Provider | Chicago
We're partnering with a global technology organisation trusted by many of the world's leading financial institutions to deliver mission-critical observability and monitoring solutions. As demand for their platform continues to grow, they're investing heavily in their deployment and platform engineering capabilities and are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to help bridge the gap between product engineering and enterprise customers.
This is not a traditional DevOps role.
You'll work directly with some of the most sophisticated engineering teams in the world, helping deploy, optimise, and scale a next-generation observability platform across complex, highly regulated environments. Acting as a trusted technical partner, you'll combine deep platform engineering expertise with customer-facing consultancy, influencing both deployment strategy and future product development.
What You'll Do
- Partner directly with enterprise customers to design, deploy, and optimise large-scale Kubernetes-based platform implementations.
- Act as the technical bridge between customer engineering teams and internal Product and Engineering functions.
- Define best practices for deployment, security, scalability, observability, and operational governance across client environments.
- Architect and automate deployment patterns using Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Influence the product roadmap by identifying opportunities to improve deployment, supportability, and operational efficiency based on customer feedback.
What You'll Bring
- Experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering.
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, container orchestration, and production platform operations.
- Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking, security, authentication, and infrastructure architecture.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tooling, ideally Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or similar.
- Strong Linux administration and scripting skills using Bash, Python, or comparable technologies.
- Experience supporting customers, stakeholders, or cross-functional teams in complex technical environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both engineering and business audiences.
This opportunity is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving difficult technical challenges but want broader impact than a traditional infrastructure role can offer. You'll work directly with some of the largest banks and financial institutions globally, helping deliver critical observability capabilities across environments where performance, reliability, and resilience are non-negotiable.
If you're looking for a role that combines platform engineering, systems architecture, customer engagement, and genuine influence over product direction, we'd love to hear from you. Please share your CV for a confidential conversation.
