Police Digital Service (PDS) is recruiting on behalf of the NPCC National Data & Analytics Office - NDAO a dedicated national capability transforming data and analytics use in policing.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a ground-breaking function within policing which will shape the future of data and analytics in UK law enforcement and help to utilise policing data to better protect the public. The NDAO will ensure:
- Responsible data use across law enforcement
- Improved data governance and standardised datasets
- Enhanced data analytics services to support operational decision-making
- Professionalisation of data and analytics roles within policing
- A more integrated data-sharing ecosystem across forces, with the appropriate tooling to exploit the data held
For the first time, UK policing will have a recognised, accredited approach to data and analytics, helping forces to work smarter and more effectively without compromising security or integrity.
We are looking for an experienced and innovative Business Intelligence Developer to help shape how policing uses data to make better decisions, improve operational effectiveness, and deliver better outcomes for the public.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team at the heart of policing's data transformation agenda. You will design, develop and maintain modern business intelligence solutions that enable leaders, analysts and operational teams to access trusted, insightful and actionable information.
Working closely with Data Engineers, Data Architects, Analysts, Product Managers and stakeholders across policing, you will translate complex business requirements into intuitive data products, dashboards and reporting solutions that support national priorities and strategic decision making.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain Power BI datasets, reports and dashboards.
- Develop scalable semantic models and reporting solutions that meet national policing requirements.
- Integrate, transform and optimise data from multiple sources.
- Champion data quality, governance and best practice throughout the development lifecycle.
- Translate complex analytical requirements into user-centred visualisations and actionable insights.
- Support the adoption of data products through stakeholder engagement, training and communication.
- Contribute to the development of national data standards, reporting frameworks and analytical capabilities.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure solutions deliver measurable business value.
- Optimise performance, security and accessibility of BI solutions.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies and contribute to continuous improvement across the data and analytics function.
What you need to succeed in the role
Skills and experience
Essential
- Proven experience developing enterprise-scale BI solutions.
- Advanced Power BI development capability, including DAX, Power Query and semantic model design.
- Experience working with large, complex datasets.
- Understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modelling and ETL/ELT processes.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary data teams.
Desirable
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services or Databricks.
- Knowledge of data governance and information management principles.
- Experience working within policing, criminal justice, public sector or regulated environments.
- Familiarity with Python or other data engineering technologies.
- Understanding of national policing data challenges and opportunities.

Working Arrangements
This is a remote role with some national travel required to attend meetings.
All applicants must be eligible to undergo NPPV3 (Non Police Personnel Vetting Level 3) and SC vetting clearances. Successful applicants will require NPPV3 clearance to have been cleared before starting with PDS.
