Summary
The CSU Advisor reports directly to the CSU Director or Designee. They promote and provide leadership for Safety and direct/coordinate daily activities of the CSU Mechanical Techs and construction support craft. They assume the direct responsibility of assigned mechanical equipment and systems for completion with the highest degree of safety and quality. They mentor and provide positive feedback to employees. They assist with the coordination of client personnel for OJT and Maintenance training.
General Description Duties & Responsibilities
- Assumes direct responsibility of all mechanical components and systems integrity for completion of contractual requirements with the highest degree of safety and quality
- Directs and coordinates the daily activities of field mechanical techs and construction craft
- Holds and/or attends daily safety meetings
- Spot checks Job Hazard Analysis, (JHA) for each assigned crew daily
- Develops scoped packages and necessary forms for completion and turnover package
- Develops work procedures and packages for component and system testing
- Reads and adheres to Start Up Administration Manual
- Reads and understands all contractual requirements for completion, including permitting and EPA requirements
- Performs drawing reviews for accuracy
- Maintains all drawings and databases to ensure accurate “As-Built” information and drawings
- Promotes and insists on good housekeeping in the office and on the project site
- Ensures spare parts and consumables necessary for the proper operations of each assigned system are available
- Coordinates initial system flushing, functional testing, and operation of plant systems
- Troubleshoots and isolates system problems including correcting or suggesting resolutions and providing a written report of the results
- Checks out installed systems and equipment adhering to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements, system descriptions and power plant practices
- Tracks progress of assigned systems and provide startup manager with a timely report of progress and activities
- Performs construction process assessments during system walk-downs and identify exceptions and deficiencies
- Performs commissioning and testing of individual components, systems, and station as a complete integrated unit to meet all contractual obligations
- Possesses advanced proficiency in industry codes and standards relevant to the field of expertise
Basic Qualifications: Level 1
- Education/Experience: Associate degree in Mechanical Technology or Millwright Studies from a University or Technical School, and/or job-related experience with a minimum of 7–9 years’ experience in a heavy industrial environment.
- Technical Literacy: Must have the ability to read and understand P&IDs, Mechanical Equipment Drawings, Isometric Drawings, Sectional Views, and Bolt Torque Patterns.
- Software: Proficiency in CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo), Laser Alignment software, and MS Office Suite.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Must have recent knowledge of large-bore pumps, centrifugal/reciprocating compressors, gas turbines, and cryogenic valves.
- Codes & Standards: Experience with mechanical codes and standards, including API (610, 617, 682), ASME (B31.3), and AWS is required.
- Project Leadership: Experience as a Mechanical Supervisor on at least (1) mid-to-large size project during the construction, commissioning, and initial start-up phases is preferred.
Basic Qualifications: Level 2
- Education/Experience: Associate degree in Mechanical Technology or Millwright Studies from a University or Technical School, and/or job-related experience with a minimum of 5–7 years’ experience.
- Technical Literacy: Must have the ability to read and understand P&IDs, Mechanical Equipment Drawings, Isometric Drawings, and Sectional Views.
- Software: Proficiency in CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo) and MS Office Suite.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Must have recent knowledge of rotating equipment maintenance, precision alignment, and mechanical seal troubleshooting.

Specialized Technical Competencies
The following skills are highly preferred for Level 1 and Level 2 roles and may be required based on specific unit assignments (Pretreatment, Liquefaction, Power & Utilities, or Marine & Storage)
- Cryogenic Systems Expertise:
- Practical experience with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) containment, including vacuum-jacketed piping and cryogenic valve maintenance.
- Familiarity with the expansion/contraction properties of metals in super-cooled environments (-260°F).
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of submerged motor pumps and cryogenic heat exchangers (MCHEs).
- Condition Monitoring & Vibration Analysis:
- Proficiency in Vibration Analysis (Level I or II ISO Certification preferred) to diagnose rotor unbalance, misalignment, or bearing wear.
- Experience utilizing Bently Nevada or similar machinery protection systems to interpret real-time equipment health data.
- Knowledge of Oil Analysis and thermography for predictive maintenance of critical turbines and compressors.
- Advanced Precision Rigging:
- Experience with heavy lifts and specialized rigging for large-scale rotating equipment components (e.g., turbine rotors, compressor bundles).
- Specialized Sealing & Lubrication:
- Advanced troubleshooting of Dry Gas Seals and complex API 682 seal flush plans.
- Expertise in high-pressure hydraulic systems and specialized lubrication programs for high-speed turbomachinery.
