Role Description The Heavy Equipment Operator is a full-time, on-site position based in Axis, AL, supporting steel mill operations and related industrial services. This role involves operating heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, and other machinery to move, load, and handle materials safely and efficiently. Day-to-day tasks include following production and work schedules, performing basic equipment inspections, reporting any mechanical issues, and adhering to all safety and environmental procedures. The Heavy Equipment Operator collaborates with other team members and supervisors to maintain smooth operations, minimize downtime, and meet quality and performance standards. The role may also involve assisting with site cleanup, supporting maintenance activities, and adjusting operations in response to changing site conditions.
Qualifications
- Equipment operation skills, including Heavy Equipment and Equipment Operation, with experience using loaders, excavators, and similar machinery.
- Ability to support Excavation activities and handle Used Equipment in an industrial or construction environment.
- Basic Equipment Maintenance skills, including performing routine inspections, identifying issues, and reporting or assisting with minor repairs.
- Knowledge of industrial or steel mill safety practices, with a strong commitment to safe work habits and environmental compliance.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, site procedures, and basic operational documentation.
- Reliable attendance, willingness to work shifts or overtime as needed, and capability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Previous experience as a heavy equipment operator in industrial, steel mill, or construction settings is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent is beneficial; relevant certifications or equipment operator licenses are a plus.
