We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Backend Developer with a strong interest in backend development, API development, databases, and software engineering. The ideal candidate will assist in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining backend applications and services. This role is ideal for recent graduates or candidates with internship, academic, or personal project experience who are eager to build their careers in backend development and modern software technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain backend applications, services, and REST APIs.
- Write clean, efficient, scalable, and maintainable code.
- Develop and integrate APIs to support application and business requirements.
- Work with relational and non-relational databases to store, retrieve, and manage application data.
- Write SQL queries and perform basic database operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, API, and backend-related issues.
- Perform debugging, testing, and performance improvements.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, data engineers, and other technical teams.
- Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices.
- Implement unit tests and assist with integration testing.
- Work with Git and version control systems for code management.
- Document technical solutions, APIs, development processes, and code changes.
- Assist with application deployment and troubleshooting across development and production environments.
- Stay updated with emerging backend technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python, Java, JavaScript/Node.js, C#, or Go.
- Some coding experience through academic projects, internships, personal projects, or professional experience.
- Understanding of backend development concepts and software engineering fundamentals.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, HTTP methods, JSON, and API integration.
- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
- Basic knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, or other version control systems.
- Understanding of debugging, testing, and software development practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with backend frameworks such as Django, FastAPI, Flask, Spring Boot, Express.js, or .NET.
- Experience developing academic, internship, or personal backend projects.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, or Redis.
- Basic knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Exposure to Docker and containerization.
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and deployment processes.
- Basic understanding of microservices architecture.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorisation concepts such as OAuth, JWT, or API security.
- Exposure to Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
