About the Project:
This Government-funded project focuses on developing advanced drone and allied technologies, including selected drone applications.
This job pertains to a sub-project that focuses on Coastal Relief Modelling and Coastal Flood Modelling. We are seeking a highly motivated Project Research Engineer to join a cutting-edge research initiative focused on coastal zone mapping and coastal flood and inundation modelling. The candidate will lead the development of a coastal flood model using open-source circulation model (ADCIRC) and Wave model (SWAN). The model will use input data along with bathymetry from open sources as well as UAV-based imagery and satellite remote sensing-based bathymetry data. This role involves field-based data collection and high-level computational modelling. The work also involves preparing regular technical reports, publishing research in peer-reviewed journals, and performing administrative work related to the project.
Qualification & Experience:
MTech / ME / or equivalent degree
OR
BTech /BE /M.Sc/MCA or equivalent degree with 2 years of relevant experience
Note: Civil/Coastal/Ocean Engineering or Coastal Management degrees are the eligible specializations. Experience in coastal hydrodynamic modelling is desirable.
Key Skills Required:
●Proven experience in ADCIRC/SWAN/Relevant modelling in Linux
●Experience in scientific programming will be added advantage.
●Good communication and problem-solving skills.
●Ability to coordinate with drone design, UAV-based data collection and technical teams and other internal departments.
●Willingness to travel and work in outdoor coastal environments.
●Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Linux.
●Knowledge of hydrographic surveying principles is desirable
●Knowledge of coastal hydrodynamic modelling is essential
●Prior experience in publishing research in Scopus-indexed journals is a significant plus
To excel in this role, a candidate should ideally possess a mix of the following:
●Hydrodynamics/Coastal Engineering: Understanding of wave theory, coastal morphology, and tidal corrections.
●Numerical Modelling: Understanding of numerical methods, PDEs, spatial and temporal integration schemes
●Statical Analysis: Understanding of various data and error analysis techniques
●Field Competency: Ability to handle GNSS/RTK equipment and conduct UAV surveys in challenging beach/surf zone environments.
Roles & Responsibilities:
●Numerical coastal flood modelling studies for various sites along selected coastal sites, such as east and west coast of India and islands.
●Tide, wave and surge modelling and flood map preparation using coastal relief models
●Morphodynamic modelling for the selected sites
●Track ongoing work, timelines, and report progress
●Take ownership of assigned tasks, handling activities from planning to completion with accountability
●Research paper preparations
●Timely report and ppt preparations
