Senior ML Engineer
We're hiring on behalf of a bootstrapped, profitable SaaS company that's tripled in size over the past year. They run backend infrastructure powering hundreds of thousands of customer websites, processing millions of submissions every month.
The opportunity
This is a genuinely broad, high-ownership role - part fraud, part spam/classification, part security backup. You'll own this space end to end, from day one, with real freedom to decide how to fix it.
- Fraud detection — building and evolving the systems that keep the platform trustworthy at scale.
- Spam & classification — designing and improving the ML systems that keep millions of monthly submissions clean, with real feedback loops to learn from.
- Security — informal backup coverage during off-hours, working alongside the team's existing security lead. Not a deep DevOps role — just enough to read a dashboard, diagnose an issue, and contain it until morning.
Who they're looking for
- Someone who has shipped and owns real production systems — not someone who's only operated inside a large, layered organisation. If you've built or maintained something of your own, contributed seriously to open source, or shipped things solo at a smaller company, this would be a great fit
- Comfortable running real experiments and making evaluation-driven calls with actual numbers
- Genuinely self-directed — small team, real ownership, real ambiguity at times.
- Excited by breadth rather than narrow specialism.
The offer:
- Location: Remote, anywhere on Australia's east coast
- Package: Up to $220k + super, depending on experience
