Senior AI UX & Front-End Design Engineer
Remote _USA
Contract
Position Overview
This role combines AI-assisted design, generative UI, front-end engineering, accessibility, and design quality evaluation to build workflows that turn product briefs, approved standards, reusable components, and user-research evidence into high-quality initial UI designs and working software.
The role will help advance generative UI and design-to-code capabilities while establishing the quality standards, evaluation methods, and accessibility practices needed to create a trusted AI-assisted design workflow.
What You'll Do / Key Responsibilities
- Design and build an AI-assisted workflow that produces an initial UI design from a product brief, approved standards, reusable components, and cited user-research evidence.
- Create and maintain the design-craft scoring rubric used to assess generated work and regression-test releases of the AI toolchain.
- Build generative-UI and design-to-code capabilities that produce working, component-based front-end code.
- Work with Angular, TypeScript, Web Components, HTML, and CSS as primary target technologies.
- Define design-facing acceptance criteria for design-system conformance, accessibility, UX writing, usability, and visual craft.
- Partner with the AI Experience Platform Architect to implement design rules as reusable checks.
- Own accessibility quality across generated experiences by designing to WCAG 2.2 AA and performing automated and assistive-technology testing.
- Remediate accessibility failures and identify checks that can be safely automated.
- Tune quality checks to reduce false positives and define defensible design exceptions.
- Use structured research evidence to explain and trace design decisions.
- Consume the existing enterprise design system and contribute proven patterns back to its owning team.
- Map proposed workflows and secure alignment from designers, engineers, and business partners.
- Lead pilots, testing, training, and rollout activities.
Required Qualifications
- Recent hands-on experience building an agentic AI tool, reusable agent skill, or multi-step AI workflow that was used by a team, not only prompting a general-purpose assistant.
- Demonstrated experience with generative UI, design automation, or design-to-code workflows that produce working software rather than image-only mockups.
- Strong production front-end engineering skills.
- Angular experience is preferred; deep experience in React, Vue, or another modern component framework is acceptable with the ability to transition to Angular.
- Strong UX and interaction-design judgment, including the ability to distinguish technically valid output from high-quality, usable design.
- Hands-on accessibility engineering experience, including WCAG 2.2 AA conformance, keyboard and screen-reader testing, remediation, and tools such as axe-core.
- Experience defining evaluation criteria, test sets, rubrics, or automated quality checks for AI or design output.
- Ability to turn an ambiguous problem into options, explain trade-offs, recommend a direction, and execute with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Strong collaborative habits and the ability to work as a close peer with the AI Experience Platform Architect.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep Figma knowledge, including variables, design tokens, shared libraries, component properties, and multiple brand themes.
- Experience building with current AI coding or agent environments such as Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT Work, or comparable platforms.
- LLM evaluation and regression-testing experience, particularly detecting quality changes after model, prompt, tool, or knowledge-source updates.
- Experience with interface writing against an established content standard.
- Experience in insurance, financial services, healthcare, or another highly regulated environment.
- Experience launching a design tool or workflow beyond an individual proof of concept to team or enterprise use.
