About the Role
We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer who thrives at the intersection of client consulting, cloud architecture, and hands-on engineering. This is a client-facing role where you will help define business and technical needs, design practical solutions, and personally build, deploy, and support them.
Azure is the primary platform for this role, with GCP, DevOps, application modernization, automation, and AI-assisted rapid prototyping and development experience considered highly valuable.
Forward Deployed Engineers are measured by client outcomes, not deliverable volume. In a typical engagement you will run discovery, produce solution options with tradeoffs and estimates, build a working prototype in days rather than weeks, harden it into a production solution, and stay engaged through adoption. You should be comfortable being the technical point of contact a client trusts to get something shipped, and comfortable producing the client-facing artifacts that go with it: discovery notes, architecture recommendations, implementation plans, estimates, and demos.
What You’ll Do
- Work directly with client stakeholders to understand business and technical challenges
- Lead discovery sessions, architecture discussions, solution workshops, and technical presentations
- Design, build, deploy, and support cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure
- Use AI tools and agent-assisted development to accelerate the full delivery lifecycle — research, requirements analysis, prototyping, coding, test generation, documentation, and deployment — and validate every AI-generated output against client requirements, security standards, and maintainability expectations before it ships
- Develop applications, APIs, automation, integrations, and deployment pipelines
- Identify where AI can practically solve a client problem, then design and build AI-enabled solutions — copilots, agents, retrieval over client data, document processing, and workflow automation — that integrate with existing systems, data sources, identity, and security models
- Modernize and migrate applications from on-premises or other cloud environments to Azure
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or Bicep
- Troubleshoot application, infrastructure, networking, identity, and deployment issues
- Collaborate with project managers, delivery leads, developers, security teams, and client stakeholders
- Mentor engineers and help establish practical engineering standards and best practices
- Take ownership of outcomes from discovery through architecture, development, deployment, and production support
What We’re Looking For
- 6–8+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, DevOps, solution engineering, or technical consulting
- Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions on Microsoft Azure
- Experience leveraging AI tools, modern development platforms, and automation to accelerate prototyping and solution delivery
- Experience building, deploying, and supporting applications in cloud environments
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture, networking, identity, security, monitoring, and reliability
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, Git, Docker, containers, and deployment automation
- Experience with Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or similar Infrastructure as Code tools
- Application development experience with technologies such as .NET/C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs, microservices, or similar
- Experience working directly with clients, executives, architects, developers, and engineering teams
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong ownership mindset, troubleshooting skills, and comfort solving ambiguous problems
What Success Looks Like in 90 Days
In your first 90 days, success looks like this: you are trusted by at least one client team, you have delivered a working solution or prototype that client users are actively using, and you can show how AI-assisted delivery shortened the path from problem to production.
Nice to Have
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS experience
- Experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio, agentic frameworks such as Semantic Kernel or LangChain, Model Context Protocol integrations, retrieval-augmented generation, low-code platforms, application modernization, data engineering, or automation
- Consulting, professional services, systems integration, or managed services experience
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field preferred
- Equivalent professional experience will be considered
- Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Developer Associate, or Azure Administrator Associate are a plus
- Terraform, Kubernetes, or GCP certifications are a plus but not required
Work Setup
- Full-time role
- Hybrid work model based in Houston, Texas
- Client-facing delivery role with hands-on engineering responsibilities
- Regular onsite and embedded collaboration with client teams is expected, including discovery workshops, delivery milestones, and go-live support, with occasional travel to client sites
Job Type
- This is a full-time position, and we expect the successful candidate to commit fully to their responsibilities at Serverless Solutions.
