AI Product Engineer
We're working with a startup in the healthtech space to find an AI Product Engineer for their engineering team. This is a chance to join a company building an AI-native, outcome-oriented engineering culture, where AI tooling accelerates delivery but judgment and quality still lead.
About Our Client
Our client is building the next AI assistant for mental health. Their engineers are empowered problem solvers, not ticket-takers, working in close partnership with product, design, and [data/other stakeholder] teams to drive real outcomes.
How the Team Works
- Outcome-driven - engineers are given problems to solve, not just features to build. Success is measured by impact, not velocity
- AI-native - AI is used across the SDLC to speed up implementation, testing, and review, so engineers can focus on intent, validation, and system design
- High autonomy, high accountability - real ownership over your domain, and real responsibility for quality and results
- Cross-functional by default - discovery, experimentation, and delivery are shared with product, design, and data
- Quality matters - reliability, observability, and correctness are first-class, not afterthoughts
What You'll Do
- Own meaningful product areas end-to-end, from discovery through delivery and iteration
- Design and evolve systems that support safe, scalable, AI-augmented development
- Use data and experimentation to validate whether solutions actually work
- Partner cross-functionally to balance user impact, business constraints, and technical trade-offs
- Help shape how the team works - tools, processes, and culture
What Our Client Is Looking For
- You start with "why" before jumping to "how"
- You're energised by ambiguity and enjoy shaping problems, not just solving defined ones
- You use AI to amplify your own judgment and move faster on what matters
- You think in systems and anticipate second-order effects
- You want to own outcomes, not just ship tickets
Background
- Strong production experience building product software in a startup or scale-up environment
- Excellent TypeScript/Node capability, comfortable across APIs, services, data, and cloud infrastructure
- Strong product sense - you start from the user or business problem, not the implementation
- Comfortable operating autonomously in ambiguous environments and making sound trade-offs with incomplete information
- Solid testing, observability, and reliability instincts
- Fluent with AI-augmented engineering workflows, while keeping human judgment and QA discipline front and centre
Nice to Have
- Experience in [regulated/specialist industry, e.g. healthcare, fintech]
- Experience with event-driven systems, serverless AWS, relational database design, and infrastructure as code
- Experience with experimentation, analytics, or growth/product instrumentation
- Experience across both backend and user-facing product surfaces
- Experience building products from 0 to 1 in an early-stage environment
Logistics
- Location / working pattern: Hybrid - 2x days pw
- Visa sponsorship: Not Available
- Salary: £110,000 - £130,000 + equity
