A Quantity Surveyor (QS) manages all costs and contracts on a construction project to make sure it’s built on time, on budget, and to quality.
*Key responsibilities:*
- *Cost estimation*: Prepare bill of quantities (BOQ), cost estimates, and budgets
- *Tendering & contracts*: Handle bids, evaluate suppliers/subcontractors, and draft contracts
- *Cost control*: Track project spending, do valuations, process interim payments and variations
- *Procurement*: Source materials, compare quotes, and manage purchase orders
- *Reporting*: Advise the client/project manager on financial risks, savings, and cash flow
- *Final accounts*: Measure work done, settle claims, and close out project costs
