Context
WP Umbrella helps thousands of WordPress agencies and freelancers maintain, monitor and back up their clients' sites. The product is profitable, mature and well loved, and it deserves someone whose full-time job it is.
Until now, the product has been driven directly by the founder, in close collaboration with the CTO. The founding team's focus is widening to other projects: we are looking for the person who will take over product execution at WP Umbrella, from the roadmap to the interfaces that ship.
This is not a classic PM role. We are not looking for someone who writes specs and waits. We are looking for someone who builds.
One important detail: we don't mock things up in Figma
Our interfaces are prototyped directly in code, with Claude Code, on top of our existing design system. In practice: you start from a user problem, iterate on a working interface in the browser, and refine it with the CTO until it is ready to be integrated.
You don't need to be a developer. You do need to be technical enough to be comfortable in a terminal, read front-end code (React/HTML/CSS), understand what an API is, and drive code-generation tools with precision. If you have already shipped prototypes or side projects with AI tools, you are probably in the right place.
Your responsibilities
1. Roadmap execution You turn the roadmap into shipped features: writing the cards (specs, acceptance criteria, edge cases) and building the interfaces as working prototypes on top of the design system. You work day to day with the CTO and the tech team.
2. Product KPIs You define and implement the product metrics that matter (activation, feature adoption, retention, friction), monitor them, and produce regular, actionable reporting for the founding team.
3. Continuous support analysis You continuously analyse support tickets to identify recurring friction, quantify it, and turn it into concrete improvements on the roadmap.
4. Product communication You work in a loop with our Marketing Manager on releases: what ships, when, how we talk about it, and what it changes for users. Changelogs, in-app notifications, release content.
5. Voice of the user You regularly run user interviews — with fans and with unhappy users alike — and turn them into structured insights that feed product decisions.
Your first months: expected milestones
Our users love what we have built: this is not a revolution, but careful, continuous execution. The concrete deliverables are listed in the roadmap at the end of this document. Beyond those, by the end of your first year:
- Product decisions are driven by data: the founding team receives a monthly product report from you and uses it to set priorities.
- You own reporting on the state of support, in collaboration with our Head of Support, and you make the product decisions that follow from it.
- You have established a regular cadence of user interviews, with a synthesis shared with the founding team, and those insights show up concretely in roadmap decisions.
- Every existing interface has been reviewed and improved, within the constraints of the design system.
- Friction reported to support has measurably decreased.
The framework, in full transparency
- You own execution. The vision and major roadmap trade-offs remain with the founder, with whom you work directly. Your scope is meant to grow as trust builds.
- You bring proposals and challenge priorities with data (KPIs, support, interviews) — it is expected.
- You join a small team where autonomy is real: no committees, no heavy process, direct access to decision-makers.
The profile we are looking for
- Experience in B2B SaaS product: hands-on PM, product-minded designer, founder/indie hacker, or a hybrid profile — the title matters less than what you have shipped.
- Technical enough to prototype in code with AI tools (Claude Code or equivalent) and to hold your own with developers.
- A real eye for interface detail: visual hierarchy, empty states, error messages, micro-copy. You notice what others don't.
- Concrete empathy for professional users: our customers are WordPress agencies and freelancers whose business depends on our reliability.
- Comfortable with data: basic SQL or analytics tools, able to instrument and interpret.
- Autonomous, structured, strong in writing. Fluent French and English (our user base is international).
Bonus: familiarity with the WordPress ecosystem or the web-agency world.
What we offer
- A profitable, well-loved product with an engaged user base that shows up for interviews.
- The possibility to join a small team of friends who is having fun building an awesome produt.
- Real ownership of execution from day one, with no intermediate layers.
- A solid design system and a competent tech team: you build on healthy foundations.
- A modern product stack where AI is part of the daily workflow.
- Salary: €45K gross per year, plus regular bonuses.
- Health insurance with Alan for French based people.
- Fully remote.
The product roadmap for the next 12 months
Our users love the product as it is: this roadmap improves and extends it, it does not reinvent it. The split of roles is simple: the tech team builds the underlying integrations and infrastructure; you own everything the user sees and touches, from spec to shipped interface. Items are listed in priority order; that order may be adjusted based on what product tracking and support analysis reveal.
- Product tracking set-up — instrumenting key metrics with the tech team and delivering the first monthly report
- Redesign of the logs page, notification centre and alert pages — in response to friction identified through support and tracking
- Google Analytics integration — connection flow and data views inside WP Umbrella
- Google Search Console integration — connection flow and data views inside WP Umbrella
- Staging management — interface for creating, previewing and pushing staging sites to production
- Client reporting overhaul — new interface for configuring and generating reports, enriched by the new integrations
- Onboarding and activation — review and redesign of the first-run journey: first sites connected, first backup, first report sent
- Managing at scale — redesign of list views, search, filters and bulk actions for agencies managing dozens or hundreds of sites
And many things that are not planed and will just pop-up..!
