About the Role

We are seeking a Research Assistant to support the delivery of our Physics and Mathematics programmes.

This role focuses on supporting students in developing structured academic and research-based work within mathematics, theoretical and applied physics, computational sciences, and related quantitative disciplines. You will work alongside a senior mentor to guide students through mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, research development, literature analysis, and academic writing.

Key Responsibilities

- Support students in producing structured academic research and publication-level work in mathematics, physics, or related quantitative disciplines

- Assist with literature review, topic refinement, and academic direction

- Support mathematical modelling, quantitative analysis, and scientific reasoning

- Review essays, research papers, and technical reports, providing clear and constructive feedback

- Suggest improvements in analytical reasoning, mathematical rigour, and scientific communication

- Guide students on referencing, citations, and academic standards

- Introduce tools such as LaTeX, Overleaf, Python, Mathematica, MATLAB, or similar platforms where appropriate

- Ensure consistent progress throughout the programme

Required (Skills & Capabilities)

- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's or early-stage PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, Astrophysics, Engineering Physics, Computational Science, or a related field

- Strong academic and research background within mathematics, physics, or quantitative sciences

- Familiarity with academic literature review and scientific research methodologies

- Experience supporting or contributing to research projects, publications, mathematical modelling, or scientific research

- Ability to explain complex mathematical and physical concepts clearly to students aged 13–23

- Familiarity with LaTeX, Overleaf, and mathematical typesetting

- Experience with mathematical modelling, computational methods, or quantitative analysis

- Experience with mathematics or physics competitions (e.g., IMO, IPHO, Putnam, BMO, or equivalent) is advantageous

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Strong judgement, professionalism, and attention to detail
