Offering a housing stipend for any candidates requiring relocation to Cambridge, MA if currently more than 50 miles from work site. Additional 3 weeks PTO per year included in contract offer as well.

Job Description

Early Career Physician -

This program is designed for physicians who have completed advanced specialty clinical training, such as fellowship. Ideal applicants will have 1-5 years of basic or clinical research experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in their specialty area. Specialty areas include, but are not limited to, internal medicine, cardiovascular, endocrinology/metabolism and critical care.

The selected fellow is expected to spend at least 80% of their time at Novartis Biomedical Research in Cambridge, MA during the fellowship, gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of drug discovery and development.

Established Academic Physician -

This program is for physician-scientists who have completed training and now hold a faculty position at an academic medical institution. The selected fellow should have completed MD or MD-PhD training, gained 5-10 years of clinical care and basic and/or clinical research experience in academia, and now hold a faculty position. This person would bring a unique expertise to Novartis (i.e., in depth knowledge of a specific disease area) and may work on a project related to their area of expertise.

The selected fellow would remain as faculty members at their home institution, but spend at least 80% of their time at Novartis (i.e., 4 days a week).

Fellows will be assigned to clinical teams in their area of expertise and overseen by a Translational Medicine Expert (TME) and the Therapeutic Area (TA) head. For the 2026-2027 application period, we are particularly interested in candidates with an expertise in cardiovascular and/or metabolism. Depending on the specific project(s), the fellow would be expected to fully engage in project teams overseen by the lead TME, focused on activities related to early drug development. This may include providing clinical input for pre-clinical programs, creating integrated clinical developing plans, drafting protocols and other relevant clinical and regulatory documents, and medical monitoring of ongoing trials.

Scientific literature review

Preparation and presentation of research findings

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to drive project success

Role Requirements

Candidates should have:

An MD or MD/PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with advanced clinical specialty training (e.g. cardiovascular and/or metabolism or adjacent specialties)

Gained 5-10 years of clinical care and basic and/or clinical research experience in academia, and now hold a faculty position

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills

Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment

Strong communication and presentation skills

A commitment to improving patient outcomes through innovative research

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the full duration of the two-year training program. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Location: Cambridge, MA (Onsite)

Pay Rate: $89.74/hr (1st year) & $95.90/hr (2nd year) W-2 Only (based on Education/Experience)

Contract: 24-month
