Role Title: Principal Software Engineer (Contractor) – Talent Market Intelligence (TMI) Platform
Location: New York, NY
Firm Overview
Walleye Capital is a $17 billion+ multi-strategy investment firm headquartered in New York City, with over 400 employees across five main offices. Founded in 2005 as an options market maker, we have organically grown into a global investment firm specializing in Fundamental Equities, Quant, and Volatility strategies.
At Walleye, we continuously innovate by focusing on three core principles: approach, platform, and people. Our approach is to allocate risk capital where we believe there is not only a compelling opportunity, but also a clear ability to define our tangible edge. We seek to leverage the mathematical benefits of diversification while utilizing sophisticated infrastructure, technology, and our balance sheet to do so in a structurally advantageous way. Our platform, developed over two decades, is central to our operations—evolving alongside business complexities and technological advancements to support our team's success. Our people are our greatest asset, and we've cultivated an environment that attracts top talent by balancing autonomy with collaboration, and intelligence with integrity.
Position Overview
The Treasury team is a new and exciting department within Walleye. Treasury centralizes the firm's functions around Portfolio Finance, Traded Finance, Collateral Management, and Clearing and Commission Management. The growing Traded Finance function, which focuses on optimizing inventory and capital using multi-asset trading strategies, is making an Associate-level hire in the New York office to help manage the day-to-day trading activities and build new strategies.
The role will be based in our New York office and will report into the Director of Traded Finance in New York.
Responsibilities
Platform & Application Build
Evolve the validated TMI prototype into a production-grade web application: an interactive market-intelligence platform accessible to the full Business Development team.
Build the CRM at the platform's core as the master repository for investment professionals, candidates, and hires—entity model, deduplication, and full change history.
Deliver the industry talent map and hiring-pipeline reporting as first-class product surfaces.
Data Model & Integrations
Design the entity and relationship model for people, firms, roles, and pipelines, with provenance and history built in from the start.
Integrate with Greenhouse, Workday, and adjacent HR systems via APIs and webhooks so that applicant tracking becomes a consumer of the platform and information duplication is minimized.
Track data provenance end to end to support legal and compliance review of sourced data.
Permissioning, Governance & Compliance
Design and implement a permissioning framework beyond the firm's standard ACL systems: grant non-Client employees access to the relevant parts of the application while selectively restricting sensitive data.
Build the permission controls and governance tooling used by an appointed platform administrator.
Handle personal data to privacy and data-sensitivity standards, partnering with Legal on provenance and compliance requirements.
Reliability & Operations
Own hosting, database, and backup/recovery for the platform
Maintain documentation, runbooks, and observability appropriate to a business-critical internal system.
Collaboration & Product Iteration
Partner with product and program management to translate stakeholder requirements into a prioritized roadmap.
Iterate rapidly with Business Development users while protecting platform integrity, extensibility, and governance.
Use AI-assisted development tooling to operate with high leverage as the platform's dedicated engineer.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including shipping and operating production web applications end to end.
Full-stack proficiency: a modern front end (TypeScript/React or similar) and backend services (TypeScript or Python), with strong relational database skills (PostgreSQL or similar).
Experience designing data models for entity-centric domains—people, organizations, and relationships—including deduplication, identity resolution, and change history.
Hands-on experience building or extending role- and attribute-based access controls, with a working grasp of least-privilege design.
Experience integrating third-party SaaS platforms via REST APIs and webhooks.
Experience handling PII or otherwise sensitive data in production systems.
Demonstrated ability to operate as a sole or founding engineer on a product: comfort with ambiguity, prioritization, and documentation.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience integrating ATS/HRIS platforms (Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, or similar).
Experience building CRM systems, or deep familiarity with CRM data models.
Exposure to GDPR or comparable privacy and data-protection regimes.
Experience with graph data models or entity-resolution systems.
Experience embedding AI/LLM capabilities (search, matching, summarization) into applications.
Prior experience in a hedge fund or investment-management environment, or partnering closely with business development or investor relations teams.
