Job Overview
Self-directed, self-motivated, and dependable fabricator, and welder. This employee processes raw structural and sheet/plate material into customer and internally defined parts. Responsible for ensuring projects and parts meet customer defined quality requirements before releasing any project. Partners with engineering and waterjet team members to accelerate projects through the plant. Coaches and mentors team members increasing the diversity of team skills and building peer confidence.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and other design documents as well as implement verbal design instructions
- Actively monitor and halt area production when potential safety or quality risks are identified
- Keep equipment and work area safe, clean, and orderly
- Cut, machine, weld, and inspect high quality, precision parts from a variety of materials
- Safely handle material from rough stock to finished parts
- Lift and maneuver heavy plate, rolls, and structural materials into position using both manpower and lifting aids such as forklifts, cranes, and hoists
- ·Inspect and ensure the team meets or exceeds customer’s specifications as outlined on the work order
- ·Be and be perceived as a leader in: MIG, TIG, Brazing, Stick Welding, Fabrication, Assembly
- Demonstrate proficiency with a wide range of materials. Examples: Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Copper, Aluminum Bronze, Bronze, Titanium, Magnesium, and exotic welds (e.g. dissimilar materials, precise pre-heat)
- Able and willing to pursue a wide variety of weld certifications as required by our customers
- Coach and mentor junior employees to ensure they are also adhering to company and customer safety, quality, and output expectations
- Positively represent the company in customer engagements
- Consult on or independently design weld fixtures and procedures to improve quality and productivity
Required
- Self-directed and self-motivated team player able to act as a project manager / leader when needed
- 10+ years of welding, and fabrication experience with some formal training (AA degree, welding accreditation, advanced certifications, etc.)
- Instructor willing to invest in team skills development and the technical growth of peers
- Safe operation of forklifts, welders, saws, grinders, drills, and sheet metal fabrication equipment
- Demonstrated expertise reading, interpreting, improving, and using blueprints
- Strict attention to detail
- Lift weight within the maximum OSHA limits and use lifting aids as needed
- Perform sustained and repetitive movements; examples: lifting items to shoulder height, sitting, squatting, grinding, welding, measuring
- 2 handed dexterity enabling operation of sensitive analytical measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges, dial indicators, height gauges, squares, pin gauges, etc.
- Accurately use and read inspection tools – see list above for examples
- Basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication dimensions and validating cut programs
- Independently layout, weld prep, fabricate, weld (in all positions), and inspect assemblies
- Do NOT add or allow others to add value to bad product. Halt the job if questions arise or you are not confident the work will meet customer expectations

- Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel), SolidWorks is a plus
Detailed Physical Functions
Lifting and Carrying:
- Regularly lifting raw materials, finished parts, and tooling, that weigh up to 50 pounds or more
- Transporting these materials around the shop floor or to and from storage areas
- Using lifting aids like hoists, cranes or forklifts for heavier loads
Standing:
- Spending long periods (up to 8-12 hours) standing at a workstation
- Standing on concrete floors, necessitating good quality footwear for comfort and support
Manual Dexterity:
- Handling small parts and components with precision
- Using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges, requiring fine motor skills
Reaching and Bending:
- Frequently reaching overhead to adjust machine settings or load materials
- Bending, kneeling, or crouching to weld, fabricate, inspect parts, and maintain equipment
- Regularly working in awkward positions to access hard-to-reach areas
Visual Acuity:
- Inspecting material, parts, and assemblies for defects and measuring dimensions accurately
- Reading and interpreting blueprints or CAD drawings
- Monitoring machine displays and controls to ensure proper operation
- Monitoring and judging weld quality while welding and post weld
Stamina:
- Performing repetitive tasks with precision and consistency over extended periods
- Maintaining focus and attention to detail to avoid errors and ensure quality
Coordination:
- Coordinating movements between hands, eyes, and feet to weld and complete assemblies
- Using both hands simultaneously to manage tools, controls, parts, welding torches and filler materials
Hearing:
- Listening for unusual sounds or alarms that indicate machine malfunctions or poor weld quality
- Following verbal instructions from supervisors and team members in a noisy environment
Welders need to be physically fit and able to handle the physical demands of the job while maintaining a high level of precision and safety. It’s a role that requires both physical endurance and technical expertise.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
