Job description
We are looking for an IT Support Intern with basic computer science and hardware knowledge. The intern will assist employees with day-to-day technical issues, computer and laptop setup, printer support, software installation, basic networking, IT asset management and technical documentation. This is a full-time, office-based internship and is not available remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Install, configure and maintain desktops, laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers and other office IT equipment.
- Identify basic hardware components such as CPU, motherboard, RAM, HDD/SSD, SMPS/power supply, cooling fan, network card and common ports/cables.
- Diagnose basic hardware problems, including no power, overheating, slow systems, RAM/storage faults, display issues and peripheral failures.
- Install Windows, approved software, drivers, antivirus protection and system updates.
- Troubleshoot login, email, browser, software, printer, Wi-Fi, LAN and internet problems.
- Assist with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace user accounts and basic access permissions.
- Perform basic IP, DNS, DHCP, router, switch, LAN cable and connectivity checks.
- Maintain IT asset records, serial numbers, warranty details, licences, issue logs and repair history.
- Follow backup, cybersecurity, password and company data-confidentiality procedures.
- Document each issue, steps performed, solution, status and required escalation.
- Coordinate with senior IT staff and authorised vendors for complex repairs or replacements.
Required qualifications
- Pursuing or recently completed B.Tech/B.E., BCA, B.Sc. Computer Science, Diploma in IT/Computer Hardware, or a related course.
- Freshers and students seeking practical IT support experience may apply.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn, follow instructions and work from the office from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM.
Required technical and hardware skill set
- Hardware: identify PC/laptop components; understand RAM and storage upgrades; connect peripherals; perform basic cleaning and preventive maintenance.
- Operating systems: basic Windows installation, user accounts, Device Manager, drivers, updates and common system settings.
- Troubleshooting: use a logical check-test-fix-verify approach and know when to escalate.
- Networking: basic understanding of IP address, DNS, DHCP, router, switch, Wi-Fi, LAN and RJ45 cables.
- Office tools: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, or Google Docs, Sheets and Gmail.
- Security: strong passwords, MFA, phishing awareness, antivirus, safe software installation and secure handling of company information.
- CSE fundamentals: basic programming logic, file systems, databases, input/output devices and client-server concepts.
- Documentation: clear issue reports, asset registers, checklists and handover notes.
Preferred skills
- Ability to assemble or disassemble a desktop under supervision.
- Basic knowledge of BIOS/UEFI and boot-device settings.
- Familiarity with crimping/testing LAN cables or using a cable tester.
- Basic knowledge of Linux, SQL, scripting or cloud tools is an advantage.
